The new T-Cross – "I am cool": Volkswagen designers survey the world of compact SUVs

The countdown for the launch of the new T-Cross has started: The world première of the most compact Volkswagen SUV ever will be celebrated in autumn. The slogan "I am more" will accompany the launch in spring 2019.
It stands for the four property fields "I am practical", "I am cool", "I am intuitive" and "I am safe". With a trailer for "I am cool", Volkswagen is now showing how the T-Cross designers have surveyed the world again and developed a new, urban generation of the Sport Utility Vehicle.

Exterior example: the T-Cross has a deliberately charismatic and masculine design. Colour and trim example: two-colour dash pads link the fresh, sporty style of the interior and the twelve colours of the exterior. The new T-Cross will also be available in different bi-colour paintwork versions as an option when it is launched next year.

Interior example: at an early stage of development, the designers immersed themselves in the spacious interior – virtually using augmented reality. They tested the ergonomics as well as the ambience and experienced the T-Cross of tomorrow live today in order to perfect it further. SAIC Volkswagen Tharu in R Line trim has been leaked!




The new small SUV below the Tiguan in China (and very soon in Russia, North & South America) is expected to be launched in China before the end of the year.

The pictured Tharu R Line will measure 4453 in length, 1841 in height, 1632 in width with a wheelbase of 2680 mm and be powered by a 1.4T EA211 engine with 150hp / 110kW and expected average fuel consumption of 5.9L per 100km.

Visually the front looks more like a Tiguan R Line with black gloss trim where the fog lights would normally sit. The side wheel arch trim has textured finished trim, perhaps not quite production ready at this stage??? The rear has a lower black gloss styled trim that runs along the bottom of the rear bumper with faux rear exhaust trims.

The Tharu R Line will also have between 16 inch to 19 inch alloys and a sunroof according to the article from Autohome China.

We will find out more when SAIC Volkswagen releases more information later in year (expect November read Guangzhou Auto Show).

It is still under wraps, but the development to series production is running at full speed. The world première will take place this autumn and the launch will follow in spring 2019. Until then, Volkswagen will give more and more details about the new small but great SUV. The modular transverse matrix, or MQB for short, is one of the reasons for this. This is the technical basis of the T-Cross. The front axle moves far to the front, thereby lengthening the wheelbase, creating more space in the interior and increasing the available stowage space. The latter is also variable: Depending on the situation, the rear seat bench can be adjusted lengthwise as standard. For more legroom or - as in the case of “Grizzlys Wolfsburg” - for more space in the luggage compartment (385 to 455 litres). The maximum cargo volume represents the leading value in the segment. The back of the rear seat can also be divided (60:40) or completely folded down. This creates a flat loading area and thus even more space (1,281 litres) for the ice hockey equipment or bikes and boards. The fold-down front passenger seat backrest offers additional flexibility. 

The high seating position in the T-Cross is typical for an SUV: 597 mm at the front and 652 mm at the three seats at the rear; the elevated view from the T-Cross is realised via higher ground clearance and the seat system. Big guys like the two professionals from “Grizzly Wolfsburg” in the clip for the T-Cross also appreciate the sitting position: the American Jeff Likens (32) and the German Armin Wurm (29). Jeff was already world champion with the U20 team of the USA; since 2015 he is the deputy captain of the Wolfsburg team. Armin is one of the best defensive specialists in the country; he defends the “Grizzlys Wolfsburg” goal. The professional from Lower Saxony not only plays for the first division team from the German motor city, but also for the German national ice hockey team. One thing is certain: Jeff and Armin are very impressed with the versatility of the cargo hold concept in the T-Cross. It is not unlikely that the new Volkswagen will increasingly appear in front of the “Wolfsburg Ice Arena” from next spring - no longer under wraps, of course.

FAW Volkswagen Tayron has commenced production!
FAW Volkswagen has started production of its second SUV family called Tayron.
This mid sized SUV is aimed at the market that the SAIC Volkswagen Tiguan L (Tiguan Allspace) competes in. 

FAW Volkswagen's Tayron will be powered by two 2.0T EA888 engines with 137kW and 162kw and DSG transmission respectively.


Of interest to us are the dimensions with a Length depending on the engine / drivetrain /specification chosen of 4589mm, 4590mm & 4595mm, Width of 1860mm, Height of 1660mm and Wheelbase of 2731mm. The Tayron fits neatly between the Tiguan and Tiguan Allspace (Tiguan L).

Sydney - Volkswagen Australia has today announced specification details for its highly-anticipated seven-seat Tiguan Allspace, which will bring with it a raft of standard features and a range of safety and infotainment highlights when it goes on sale in July.
 
Bigger, more capacious and luxuriously appointed, the Tiguan Allspace is more than just a utilitarian choice for families who need the occasional use of third row seating – it is a style statement too. Designed in parallel with the award-winning Tiguan, the Tiguan Allspace is instantly recognisable by body features that include a wider rear door, a raised bonnet above the radiator grille and a unique side window design that rises above the C-pillar.
 
Overall, the Tiguan Allspace is a bigger vehicle than the standard Tiguan, with an overall length of 4,701mm (+215mm), as well as an additional 106mm more rear overhang, which allows for the addition of two seats in the third row and, most impressively, a boot of 230 litres with the seats up. The Tiguan Allspace also sits on a wider wheelbase, stretching 109mm beyond the length of the original Tiguan.
 
When it launches in July, the Tiguan Allspace will offer customers a choice of petrol and diesel engines, and feature-packed equipment grades. The range begins with the Comfortline grade, which will be available with either 110kW/250Nm turbocharged petrol engine with a 6-speed DSG and front-wheel drive, 132kW/320Nm turbocharged petrol engine with a 7-speed DSG and 4MOTION all-wheel drive, or 110kW/340Nm turbocharged diesel engine with a 7-speed DSG and 4MOTION all-wheel drive.
 
Moving up to the Highline grade, the Tiguan Allspace ups the ante with two sporty engines – the Golf GTI-derived 162kW/350Nm turbocharged petrol engine with 7-speed DSG and 4MOTION, and the 140kW/400Nm turbo diesel mated to a 7-speed DSG and 4MOTION AWD.

Production FAW Volkswagen Tayron SUV spied testing!

FAW Volkswagen's new SUV for the mid-size luxury class has been spied testing in production guise in China.




What the spy photos do confirm is that the SUV will be named Tayron as previewed at the Beijing, China Touareg World Premiere in March and reported by VWNEWSBLOG.

We can also tell from the images taken that the Tayron will borrow T-Roc's signature daytime running lights into the front bumpers. The rear of the Tayron also reveals with its 380TSI badging that it will be powered by Magotan (B8 Passat LWB) 2.0L TSI producing 162kW / 220hp.

VWNEWSBLOG suspects this black Tayron is mid to high level specification positioned below the 'Advanced Mid-size SUV' R Line concept previewed last month in Beijing, China.

At the Generation SUV & Touareg World Premiere last Friday in Beijing, China. Volkswagen revealed two new SUV concepts. The Advanced Mid-size SUV and Powerful Family SUV from its two joint ventures FAW & SAIC.

When reviewing this Press Conference VWNEWSBLOG came across the names Tayron & Tharu listed in the EU fuel directives.

We know from our Brazilian and Argentine media that Tharu is the name being used for a production vehicle that will be built in Pacheco, Argentina.
 
Volkswagen also stated last week the the People's SUV or Powerful Family SUV will be built in China this year and Mexico (for North America), Argentina (for South America) and Russia from 2020. Expected sales annually is forecasted to 400,000 units.
 
Tharu could be the name SAIC Volkswagen use when they release the little Teramont as the SAIC VW CEO called it.
 
 

FAW Volkswagen revealed the Advanced Mid-size SUV concept and we strongly believe the Tayron nameplate belongs to this yellow beauty. Not much is known about Tayron. FAW VW were keeping all specification close at hand. 

Except FAW VW did say this will be a 'Premium' midsize SUV for Chinese tastes. Much like the SAIC Volkswagen Phideon is a China only model.

"Honda made sure it kept its crown jewel ahead of the field by paying attention to a wide range of details," Detroit editor Alisa Priddle said. "Others might excel in certain fields, but others don't put the whole package together the way the CR-V does." 

While the exterior was notably not a favorite of the judges, we believe the new design was a bold step in the right direction, and one that helped establish its new identity and introduce a new design direction for Honda's full line. The interior, however, was a favorite. For a mass market crossover in the non-luxury category, the interior was noted as "swanky", "loaded", and "intuitive". The function of the cabin was somewhat of a unicorn in the category offering intelligently designed, versatile, and ultimately accessible space, with a low load floor, 60/40 split rear seats with levers in the load area, and a class-leading 39.2 cu. ft. of cargo space with the rear seats upright.

All of this cargo space and versatility comes with a longer and taller body, but a lower weight, which helps the CR-V achieve higher fuel efficiency than ever before. The entry level 2017 model CR-V gets 26 city/32 hwy, but the Touring model gets 28 city/34 hwy and for an SUV, that's impressive. The CR-V still isn't a performance vehicle, but that doesn't mean it's boring. Motor Trend touched on the positive throttle response with the 1.5L Turbo with CVT and the responsive handling that feels confident, tight, and controlled.

The passive and active safety features in the 2017 CR-V are another large factor that helped it take the Motor Trend SUV of the Year title. Passive features include the ACE Body Structure and other features built into the car that would assist in the event of a crash, while the active features are items included in the Honda Sensing Suite like Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Information System, etc. The judge's favorite feature was the Lane Keeping Assist, mainly because it didn't require a painted lane line, like most other systems do, to determine the edge of the road. One Motor Trend Editor called it the best lane keeping system, aside from Tesla's.

Evans was equally impressed. “It’s seriously impressive, especially for the price,” he said of Honda Sensing. “This is one of the most advanced driver-assistance systems on the market, and you can get it in an everyday family crossover.”

The new Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 4MATIC+ and GLC 63 4MATIC+ Coupé: Mercedes-AMG combines Performance SUV with V8 expertise

Mercedes-AMG is a remarkably solid growth engine for Daimler AG. The performance division of Mercedes-Benz, now seen as a fully bred automotive brand, is venturing onto new, unexplored lands with its all new GLC 63 4MATIC+ models, offered in both SUV (X 253) and Coupe (C 253) variants. The new performance vehicles from Affalterbach are also absolute pioneers in their respective class segments, as they are the very first V8-powered models of their kind.

The muscular character of the GLC 63 and GLC 63 Coupe is underlined by the new key visual element of the front fascia: the Panamericana grille with vertical chrome slats, that was reserved for the AMG GT family up to now. Furthermore, the generously dimensioned front air intakes, the enlarged side sills, the gargantuan rear diffuser and the prominent quad exhausts accentuate the striking design of the GLC 63 family.

Underneath the hood lurks the heart of the car - the AMG M177 V8 BITURBO engine, that is closely related to the AMG M178 unit installed the GT models. The base GLC 63 4MATIC+ develops 350 kW of output, which equals 476 hp enabling a 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 4.0 seconds. If this was not enough, we are blessed as well with the GLC 63 S 4MATIC+, which is rated at 375 kW standing for 510 hp of peak output. The time to reach 100 km/h shrinks now to a staggering 3.8 seconds for both models.

Several technologies are combined to reach this mindblowing level of dynamism and pure performance. First in line is the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9-speed gearbox which enables improved efficiency and shorter shifting times. The 4MATIC+ permanent, fully variable, all-wheel-drive system is adapted from the E 63 models to match the character of the GLC 63. Nonetheless, the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT driving management system gives the driver access to multiple driving modes - from Comfort and Sport up to RACE, that further underscore the multivalent, potent character of the midsized performance SUV.

The start of sales is programmed for June 2017, while the market release takes place at the dawn of fall in September this year. The new GLC 63 4MATIC+ and GLC 63 4MATIC+ will celebrate world premiere at the New York International Motor Show (April 14th - April 23rd). A special Edition 1 limited run version will also be available for the X 253 and C 253 as the sales begin in early summer. Affalterbach, Germany - As early as 1999 Mercedes-AMG set a milestone with the ML 55 – not only in its own 50‑year history. For the combination of high-performance engine in the skin of an SUV opened up an entirely new market segment. The performance and sports car brand now occupies a unique position in the competition again as it presents its new mid-size performance SUV at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 4MATIC+ SUV and Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 10.7-10.3 l/100 km; CO2 emissions, combined: 244-234 g/km) plus the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S 4MATIC+ SUV and Coupé (fuel consumption combined: 10.7 l/100 km; CO2 emissions (combined): 244 g/km). For the first time, a mid-size SUV is now also available with the powerful eight-cylinder biturbo in two output variants. The basis for this is provided by the AMG 4.0‑litre V8 engine with 350 kW (476 hp) or 375 kW (510 hp) in the GLC 63 S and GLC 63 S Coupé variants. Acceleration from 0‑100 km/h in just 3.8 seconds also impressively demonstrates: the new SUVs hold a special position in their market segment. The Performance SUVs also feature air spring suspension with adaptive adjustable damping, AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive with fully variable torque distribution, a rear-axle limited-slip differential and a high-performance braking system. As a visual indication of their links with Mercedes-AMG sports cars, the new models sport the AMG Panamericana grille, which was previously reserved for the AMG GT family. In addition, the new models offer all the advantages of a Mercedes-SUV: ample room for passengers and luggage, comprehensive array of safety equipment and superior traction, also in the wet or in wintry road conditions.


The new Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 4MATIC+ and Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 4MATIC+ Coupé occupy exceptional positions in their respective markets on every front. They are the only vehicles in their segment to be powered by an eight-cylinder biturbo engine. Mercedes-AMG thus meets the wishes of those customers who, also in a mid-size Performance SUV, are looking for a combination of superior power delivery along with a highly emotive, unmistakable engine sound.

Technical data at a glance



Unique offering in the segment with V8 biturbo engine

SUV and Coupé are available as basic and S-model variants: the proven AMG 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine puts out 350 kW (476 hp) or 375 kW (510 hp) with a max. torque of 650 or 700 Nm. Acceleration from zero to 100 km/h is completed by the GLC 63 S 4MATIC+ in just 3.8 seconds, while the GLC 63 4MATIC+ takes 4.0 seconds. The top speed is 250 km/h (electronically limited).

V8 biturbo closely related to engine in the Mercedes-AMG GT

The 4.0-litre eight-cylinder biturbo engine is already used in numerous AMG Performance vehicles. It is also installed in the AMG GT sports car with dry sump lubrication. A characteristic feature is that the two turbochargers are positioned not on the outside of the cylinder banks, but inside the cylinder "V". The main advantages of this design are the compact engine construction, optimal response and low exhaust gas emissions. One mechanic assembles each engine in the engine shop in Affalterbach according to the "one man – one engine" principle.

Short shift times, high efficiency: the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9-speed transmission

The new GLC 63 4MATIC+ and GLC 63 S 4MATIC+ feature the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9-speed transmission, which made its debut in the Mercedes-AMG E 63 4MATIC+. The driver benefits from extremely short shift/response times. Fast multiple downshifts and the double-declutching function make for a highly emotive gearshift experience. A start-off wet clutch replaces the torque converter. This saves weight and optimises the response to the driver's accelerator pedal input, particularly on acceleration and during load changes.

AMG Performance 4MATIC+ variable all-wheel drive

After the E-Class from Mercedes-AMG, the GLC, too, now comes with AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive. This intelligent system unites the advantages of different drive concepts: the fully variable torque distribution to the front and rear axles ensures optimal traction right up to the physical limit. The driver is also able to rely on high driving stability and handling safety under all conditions, both in the dry and in the wet or in snow. The transition from rear-wheel to all-wheel drive and vice versa is seamless, because intelligent control is integrated into the overall vehicle system architecture.

An electromechanically controlled clutch connects the permanently driven rear axle fully variably to the front axle. The best possible torque distribution is continuously computed according to the driving conditions and driver's input. Transitions are seamless and based on a sophisticated matrix. Alongside traction and lateral dynamics, the all-wheel drive also improves the longitudinal dynamics for even more powerful acceleration.

For a personalised experience: AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs

The four AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs "Comfort", "Sport", "Sport Plus" and "Individual" allow the driver to extensively influence the characteristics of the GLC E 63 4MATIC+. This modifies key parameters, such as the response of engine, transmission, suspension, steering, ESP® and all-wheel drive. Independently of the DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs, the driver has the option of pressing the "M" button to switch directly to manual mode, in which gearshifts are executed exclusively using the shift paddles on the steering wheel. The suspension settings can also be specially selected if required.

"Comfort" is the balanced drive program with a comfort-oriented suspension and steering set-up as well as a fuel-efficient powertrain configuration with early upshifts – including smooth gearshifts and a restrained engine sound. The ECO start/stop function and coasting function are activated. This is how it works: When the driver releases the accelerator in a speed range between 60 and 160 km/h, the clutch of the MCT transmission opens and the engine is decoupled from the powertrain. The electronics lower the engine speed to idle and driving resistance is reduced by the compression and friction forces of the engine on overrun.

The DYNAMIC SELECT "Sport" and "Sport Plus" drive programs are designed for high driving dynamics. This results from an agile accelerator pedal characteristic with direct set-up and emotively appealing gearshifts with shorter shift times and double-clutching function on downshifts. The increased idle speed in "Sport Plus" also enables especially fast pull-away and acceleration from rest.

The GLC 63 S 4MATIC+ has an additional "RACE" drive program, in which all the parameters are configured for maximum performance. With a total of five drive programs, the Performance SUV once again offers the widest choice in the segment.

Exhaust system with flap technology for variable engine sound

The as-standard typical V8 engine sound comes courtesy of an exhaust system with flap technology. It is controlled by a map and automatically operated depending on the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive program, the power demanded by the driver and the engine speed. Optionally available is the Performance exhaust system, which allows the sound to be modulated at the press of a button. In any case, the exhaust systems are so designed that all noise limits are complied with irrespective of the flap position.

Specific suspension for maximum lateral and longitudinal dynamics

The agility, highly dynamic lateral acceleration and maximum grip of the new models are also thanks to the new AMG suspension with fully supporting multi-chamber air suspension, which ensures exceptionally high levels of camber stability, driving dynamics and steering precision.
The front axle features a four-link design with special steering knuckles, optimised elastokinematics and radial brake connections. Independent wheel control and wheel suspension elements enable higher lateral acceleration with minimal torque steer.

The concept for the rear axle was carried over from the E 63 4MATIC+ and specially matched to the requirements of the GLC. The model-specific multi-link concept impresses with highly precise wheel control and increased stiffness. The AMG-specific rear axle carrier makes the wider track possible in comparison with the GLC from Mercedes-Benz, while the contact surfaces of the wheel bearings have also been moved further outwards. Other measures include AMG-specific wheel carriers, stiffer elastokinematic tuning and higher negative camber.

Individual driving experience thanks to three-chamber air suspension system

Thanks to a sporty spring and damper set-up and continuously variable damping, the new three-chamber air suspension system combines exemplary driving dynamics with excellent road roar and tyre vibration characteristics. The stiffness of the air springs can be adjusted over a wide range by activating or deactivating individual air chambers, making for perceptibly enhanced comfort and handling.

There are three degrees of spring tuning, depending on the selected drive program and current driving status. The spring rate is hardened automatically in the event of sudden load changes, fast cornering, heavy acceleration or heavy braking, this effectively reducing roll and pitch while stabilising the Performance SUV.

The adaptive damping can be set in three stages – "Comfort", "Sport" and "Sport Plus" – to choose between relaxed comfort on long journeys and maximum sportiness. The rebound and compression levels are adjusted independently of each other, and the freely programmable maps permit a wide spread between minimum and maximum damper force. The difference between the comfortable and sporty suspension settings is made more refined and is clearly perceptible – depending on driving style.

The GLC 63 4MATIC+ is shod as standard with 10-spoke light-alloy wheels 8.0 J x 19 (front) and 9.0 J x 19 (rear) painted in titanium grey with a high-sheen finish and with tyres of size 235/55 R 19 (front) and 255/50 R 19 (rear). The dimensions for the GLC 63 S 4MATIC+ are 265/45 R 20 (front) and 295/40 R 20 (rear) on 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels painted in titanium grey with a high-sheen finish in 9.5 J x 20 (front) and 10.0 J x 20 (rear). There are other, optional wheel/tyre combinations as well as forged wheels, up to sizes of 265/40 R 21 on 9.5 J x 21 on the front axle and 295/35 R 21 on 10.0 J x 21 wheels on the rear axle.

Rear-axle limited-slip differential: optimal traction under all conditions

For improved traction and driving dynamics, the GLC 63 4MATIC+ comes with a mechanical rear-axle limited-slip differential, while the GLC 63 S 4MATIC+ uses an electronic rear-axle limited-slip differential. Both differentials reduce the slip on the inside wheel when cornering, without control interventions by the brakes. The result: allows the driver to accelerate out of corners earlier thanks to the improved traction. The vehicle remains more stable when braking from high speed, while the limited-slip differential also improves traction from rest. Overall, the rear axle has been specially matched to the higher driving dynamics of the new Performance SUVs.

The greatest benefit of the electronic rear-axle limited-slip differential is the even more sensitive and faster control, which pushes the critical threshold higher, making it even easier to drive at the vehicle's limits. The three-stage ESP® with "ESP ON", "ESP SPORT Handling Mode" and "ESP OFF" settings works in perfect unison with the rear-axle limited-slip differential and is optimally tuned to the outstanding dynamics.

Precise, agile handling: speed-sensitive sports steering

The electromechanical, speed-sensitive sports steering makes for precise, agile handling with authentic feedback. The driver benefits from the variable steering ratio and optimised response.

The steering also features variable power assistance with the two modes "Comfort" and "Sport". The power steering is dependent not only on the vehicle's speed, but also on the instantaneous lateral acceleration, selected AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive program and setting of the adjustable damping.

With 390-millimetre perforated and internally ventilated brake discs at front and rear, the compound braking system on the GLC 63 4MATIC+ ensures short stopping distances along with excellently controllable braking force.

Expressive front end with Panamericana grille

A striking characteristic of the exterior design is the expressive front end: the new GLC 63 4MATIC+ is the first Mercedes-AMG Performance vehicle to feature the Panamericana grille, which was previously reserved for the AMG GT family of sports cars. This design statement affirms the consistently dynamic design of the new Performance SUV and Coupé. A wide front apron inspired by the design of a jet wing, with a large front splitter, impressively embodies the power of the new models. By dispensing with a fine-meshed grille, it gives a view of the cooling technology – a typical attribute from the world of motor sport and a further differentiation from the other GLC models. Wider wheel arch claddings at front and rear lend emphasis to the muscular looks.

The new side sill panels make the SUV and Coupé appear to sit lower on the road while elongating the overall lines. On the S-model variant, matt iridium silver inserts make for a distinctive appearance. The muscular rear end is dominated by the wide rear apron and diffuser in grained black. The trim on the diffuser board of the S-model variant is in matt iridium silver. The SUV is for the first time provided with a spoiler lip on the roof, while the spoiler lip on the Coupé is familiar from the GLC 43 4MATIC. The exhaust system is terminated by two high-gloss chrome-plated twin tailpipe trims.

Interior also with a consistent focus on driving dynamics

The interior underscores the leadership ambition of the new mid-size Performance SUVs in terms of driving dynamics. Driver and front passenger are enclosed as standard in sports seats in ARTICO man-made leather, combined with DINAMICA microfibre, which unite excellent lateral support with functional ergonomics tailored to the job of driving.

The instrument panel is trimmed in black ARTICO man-made leather with contrasting topstitching. The high-grade look is underlined by aluminium trim. The touchpad is flanked by the AMG DYNAMIC SELECT switch and numerous AMG-specific controls, such as the button for the 3-stage AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension, 3-stage ESP® or optionally the button for the AMG Performance exhaust system with flap control.

The S-model variant comes with an even more extensive equipment package, including a Performance steering wheel in black nappa leather / DINAMICA microfibre, AMG badges in the front head restraints in combination with leather appointments and AMG instrument cluster with red highlights.

The SUV and Coupé variants of the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 4MATIC+ and GLC 63 S 4MATIC+ are also available at launch as an "Edition 1" special model: the exclusive combination of equipment details turn the special model into the flagship of the range.

In both body variants, the Night package in high-gloss black enhances the racing-inspired looks. The sports stripes on the sides of the vehicle are in yellow or matt graphite grey, depending on the paint colour and model variant. The matt black 21-inch cross-spoke forged wheels are provided with highlights in the form of yellow or high-sheen rim flanges. The Aerodynamics package, too, draws its inspiration from the world of motor sport.

The racing feel is carried over into the interior. The sports seats are upholstered in black nappa leather and reprise the colour yellow in the contrasting topstitching of the specific diamond pattern. Black nappa leather with yellow contrasting topstitching also enhances the door centre panels, armrests and centre console. Further yellow highlights adorn the instrument cluster, floor mats and Performance steering wheel with flattened bottom section in DINAMICA microfibre with 12 o'clock marking. Added to this is AMG trim in matt carbon fibre / bright aluminium with longitudinal grain. Exclusive to the Edition 1 special model is the AMG Performance seat with diamond design and contrasting topstitching in yellow (standard in the S-Model with a corresponding exterior).

The new mid-size Performance SUVs celebrate their world premiere in April 2017 at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS). Start of sales is on 16 June 2017, while the market launch begins in September 2017.
