Record Setting and Righteously Stacked: Chevy Bolt at Top of Consumer Reports' Electric-Vehicle Range

August 18, 2017 0
St Louis is a metro area that is full of people who are working on deadlines, with very long to-do lists and multiple meeting reminders. Those in the financial sector, teachers, innovators of tech, and students are all commuting to and from their destinations at all hours of the day. When all-electric vehicles first were a distant blip on the horizon, big city dwellers, for the most part, did not have their hopes up high. If the distance that any vehicle was able to go was not that far, the excitement and novelty of the idea seemed to wear off quickly, and many stages of innovation, as well as testing, were needed.

Reaching 250 miles on a single charge, we are proud of the Bolt: it set the winning mark for the all-electric vehicle range in Consumer Reports' testing. In the electric-vehicle range test, the Bolt was pitted against the 2016 Tesla Model S 75D, which ran out of power at 235 miles, and the Bolt victoriously chugged on for another 15 miles. It should be noted that the Tesla Model X 90D has been upgraded to a longer-range 100D, and while it is true that this would probably beat out the Bolt, the cost usually boils down to the very lofty six-figure range.
The ways in which Consumer Reports tests cars involve many different types of driving, but the majority of it is a steady 65 mph on a highway. To ensure accuracy and a well-rounded result, testing is usually completed with the air conditioning and heater off. It's not just the range alone that deems the Bolt such an honored contestant: its very quiet cabin, as well as the agility factor rendered it excellent for commuters looking to plug in and help bolster the environment. Built around a large 60-kWh batter pack situated under the car's floor, a full charge takes around 9 hours.

You'll easily be able to seat 2 in the front, and 3 in the rear, and be pulling your power from a 200-hp electric engine. The presence of a 10.2-inch touchscreen is stellar for a car on the smaller side such as this, and an 8.0-inch digital gauge cluster that faces the driver for convenience. With the arrival of the Chevy Bolt, the electric car as a whole reaches a champion milestone, and a large jump to widespread appeal. The fact that electric cars have navigated the trenches with enough value and deep roots to appeal to consumers is here to stay, and even If Tesla suffers a treacherous fate, customers are now poised and ready. There is going to come a day when the EV market is ripe enough that consumers will care about far more than mileage and cost, and when it arrives, the Bolt has laid the acceptable amount of groundwork to evoke a very polished shine.

Trending Newsbeat: Awards Accolades + Achievement Close-Up on the Chevy Bolt

July 25, 2017 0

The genre of electric cars is one of those that is more than a little bit difficult to navigate. Once deemed a nearly impossible feat, Chevy now is the proud manufacturer of the electric car with more accolades and "Best Buy" awards than any other. Among the awards the Volt has snagged up are the 2017 IIHS Top Safety Pick: to qualify, a vehicle must earn good safety ratings in five crashworthiness tests -- small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraints. The awarded vehicles also have to have an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention.

Anyone who is shopping for an electric car contender in the St. Louis Metro will also be glad to know that the Volt also achieved the Autobytel 2016 Car of the Year: every year their editorial team puts their heads together, and decides their absolute tops in terms of car and truck of the year. The Volt proudly snagged up the 2016 Green Car of the Year Award, which is allocated from the well-touted Green Car Journal itself.

Praising the best of the best in terms of higher efficiency and improved environmental impact, these honors take place at the LA Auto Show, and have been handed out for 12 years now. Be it all-electric, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or a combination of powertrains and engines with conventional gasoline, electrification is going to rapidly become a necessary technology for current and future high-efficiency cars.

It's no surprise that the Volt had such a high level of achievement over the past year: it offers a breakthrough EPA-estimated 238 miles of range on a full electric charge, the first production vehicle ever to achieve a 200-plus mile driving range. Also featuring a large array of very advanced and connected technologies designed to perfect the driving experience, it reaches the top of the haughty heap in a very high-tech final list of eligible autos.

You'll love the Regen on Demand Feature, which allows the driver to use a steering wheel paddle to create a more aggressive braking pattern. This amazing technology does so while transferring electrical energy back to the battery, just another reason for the Volt's mastery of achievement in the electrical realm.

This car ultimately allows you to make fewer stops, giving you a greater ability to focus on your commute. Making the gas station a thing of the past is the main objective for Chevy owners as they are able to complete their daily duties and revamp with a charge where it is the most convenient. With the 1.5L direct-injected high-efficiency engine, the Volt is the prime electric vehicle with a well-though through master backup plan.

While it runs on an electric charge, the Volt generates additional energy through a gas-powered generator if the battery does happen to run out. Come visit us at Jim Butler today to check out how amazing this car that is powered by two electric motors is, and you'll soon become an integral part of the movement to maximize the Earth's remaining environmental potential!

Chevy Bolt Is GM's Testbed For Autonomous Driving

December 21, 2016 0

As if we weren’t already impressed with the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV’s 238-mile range, the vehicle is now the testbed for GM’s autonomous driving technologies.

Earlier in the year, GM began testing the autonomous Bolt EV prototypes on the public streets of San Francisco and Scottsdale, Arizona. And now the vehicle will begin testing on the roads of Michigan, according to a recent announcement made by GM. The company also has plans to build this next-generation autonomous Bolt EV at its Orion Assembly Plant.

“Revolutionizing transportation for our customers while improving safety on roads is the goal of our autonomous vehicle technology, and today’s announcement gets us one step closer to making this vision a reality,” stated GM CEO Mary Barra. “Our autonomous technology will be reliable and safe, as customers have come to expect from any of our vehicles.”

As safety is the top priority when testing prototypes such as this, safety engineers will be behind the wheel and ready to take over in case of an emergency during the first tests of the autonomous Bolt EVs.

The future holds some big things, if you ask us! Although you can’t quite yet get your hands on the autonomous version, you can stop in and see us at Chuck Hutton Chevrolet in Memphis, TN to get behind the wheel of the all-electric 2017 Bolt EV today!

Chevy Took Home Record Number Of Awards In November

November 30, 2016 0

According to Chevrolet, they had a pretty good November! Led by the Bolt EV, which won five awards of its own, Chevy scored a whopping 18 awards in automotive and consumer media rankings in just one week- a record for the brand.

The all-electric Bolt EV, which offers an estimated 238 miles of range on a full charge, earned a spot on the Car and Driver 10Best Cars list and was named Best New Car to Buy by Green Car Reports, Green Car of the Year by Green Car Journal and Best EV by Car Connection.

“The Bolt EV is the newest example of how Chevrolet is driving the industry with leading technology matched with great design and the connectivity that makes customers’ lives easier,” stated Alan Batey, president of GM North America and brand chief, Global Chevrolet. “We’re innovating like never before with more choices for every need and these awards affirm the depth, breadth and value offered by Chevrolet’s lineup.”

Also making names for themselves on Car and Driver’s 10Best Cars List are the Camaro 1LE and Corvette Grand Sport. This is the second consecutive year the Camaro has made the list and the third time in four years the Corvette has been on the list.

Additionally (we’re running out of breath), six Chevrolet vehicles were awarded by Consumer Guide Automotive as “Best Buys”, while the Impala and Tahoe were each named Kelley Blue Book “Best Buys” for the second consecutive year.

A successful month for Chevy? We’ll say yes! Come check out an award-winning vehicle for yourself at Chuck Hutton Chevrolet in Memphis, TN!
