SAIC Volkswagen Passat 430 PHEV Leaked! - Hybrid Passat for North America?

Another day and another leak from the Chinese Ministry of Information and IT! 
With SAIC Volkswagen's all new Passat in PHEV guise - will it launch in North America? 

The Passat will be powered by a 1.4T EA211 150hp / 110kW engine mated with a electric motor. According to Autohome China the fuel consumption will be as low as 1.4L per 100km. No power figures confirmed at time of publication. This PHEV powertrain will also be launched later in the year with SAIC Volkswagen's all new Tiguan L PHEV family.

Visually the Passat 430 PHEV is distinguished by Volkswagen's LED C-lighting for electric / hybrid vehicles (Phideon PHEV, Tiguan L PHEV, Passat GTE, e-Golf & e-up). Which starts at the fog light housing and continues with a chrome like trim running along the front bumper. The side & rear views are not that much different from the standard Passat - apart from the PHEV nameplates of course!

The new T-Cross – “more than one thing”

The T-Cross1 is set to launch a new form of SUV from the Volkswagen brand. Presented in 2016 at the Geneva Motor Show as a much-anticipated study, the series version is now making its way in the direction of actual production. With the T-Cross, Volkswagen is expanding the spectrum of Sport Utility Vehicles to include a small model. “I am more than one thing” – that is the claim with the introduction of the T-Cross. “More” is thus to be understood as a program: offering more, but nevertheless not costing more. The world première of the new T-Cross will take place in the autumn. Until then, Volkswagen will shorten the waiting time with a first look at the future SUV in the small vehicle class.


T-Cross, T-Roc, Tiguan, Tiguan Allspace and Touareg will now be the five SUV formats of the brand in Europe. But, the new T-Cross will enrich the SUV range in China and South America, as well. The 4,107-mm-long Volkswagen is designed with charisma, always front-driven, functionally conceptualised, and cleverly constructed. At home in the city, and ready for the small and large adventures both inside and outside the urban jungle.

The modular transverse matrix (MQB) creates a surprising amount of room. For example, the back seat can be adjusted lengthwise – for more knee room or more room for luggage. The positive influence of the modular transverse matrix affects all areas. Thus, the T-Cross is entering the market as one of the safest vehicles of its class, guaranteed through excellent crash properties and a large spectrum of assistance systems. Standard on board: the “Front Assist” (ambient traffic monitoring system) and “Lane Assist” (lane departure warning system). “I am more than one thing” – the new T-Cross.

FAW Volkswagen has a new SUV on the horizon based on the MQB platform to sit above the FAW VW T-Roc L and rival the Tiguan import at 4.4m and SAIC Volkswagen's future SUV to sit below Tiguan L.
 
This sized SUV is believed to be also in consideration for production in Mexico as Volkswagen's North American Region entry level SUV below the Tiguan and Atlas (Teramont).
 
 



 
SAIC Volkswagen is testing the all new Gran Lavida, the hatch version of the bestseller Lavida sedan. Both will now be based on the MQB platform.
 
The size of the hatch is believed to be close to the sedan version of 4.6m in length, 1.8m in width, 1.47m in height and have a wheelbase of 2.68m

2018 (2019MY) SAIC Volkswagen Lamando facelift & FAW Volkswagen Bora spotted testing.

Two new sedans for 2018 have been spied testing in the streets of China.


 
First the all new MQB based FAW Volkswagen New Bora sedan with its faux Lavida camouflage. The Bora and its SAIC Volkswagen Lavida twin are due for reveal later this year.
 
SAIC Volkswagen also look to be updating the MQB based Lamando sedan this year with spy shots showing LED tail lights and only side profile for now.
 
April is Auto China 2018 from Beijing, so stay tuned for more information as it comes to hand.

2018 FAW Volkswagen Compact SUV spotted (Interior Revealed)

One of two Compact SUV made for China


 
Volkswagen Group China is poised in 2018 to reveal two compact SUVs for Chinese consumption only. The two joint venture partners SAIC and FAW will share similar dimensions and positioning in the market with the Compact SUV.
 
With current Volkswagen SUV overall lengths: SAIC Volkswagen T-Cross 4.1m (expected), FAW Volkswagen T-Roc 4.3m (LWB), Tiguan 4.4m, SAIC Volkswagen Tiguan (Allspace) 4.7m,  Touareg (7P) 4.8m and SAIC Volkswagen Teramont / (Atlas) 5.0m.
 
You can see that the 4.4m up to 4.6m market is still wide open. SAIC Volkswagen Lavida and FAW Volkswagen Bora MQB based models, are believed to be around the 4.6m size once released in 2018 and will share class segments with the two Compact SUVs for China. 
 
The prototype pictured below is believed to be from FAW Volkswagen of its Compact SUV according to Chinese press. The cover is strategically placed on the exterior of the vehicle covering body shape, headlights, taillights etc.
However the photographer was able to get very clear revealing shots of the interior.
 
The revealing interior images from Autohome.com.cn show Volkswagen's Electronic Park Brake, 4Motion Active Control, Start / Stop button (for fuel use), Start / Stop (for starting the vehicle and switching it off ), Modular Infotainment System with App Connect and DSG. The radio screen is also positioned above the centre dashboard air vents like the Polo (MQB).

Volkswagen T-Cross - Spied Testing in Sweden

The all new MQB A0 SUV to be called the T-Cross has been spied testing in Sweden undergoing cold weather evaluation.




From what auto media are reporting, we can gather that the T-Cross will share the same wheelbase as its closely related sibling the SEAT Arona of 2566mm and drivetrain range. With the engine range similar to Polo, from the 3 cylinder 1.0L MPI to the 4 cylinder 1.5L evo TSI petrol engines and diesels 1.6L TDI in various horsepower guises.

The T-Cross much like the concept and SEAT Arona may only be available in front wheel drive format only. Time will tell as to whether other markets adapt Haldex 4Motion into the T-Cross like some rivals do in this class.

Expect all the usual Volkswagen Group technologies - Blind Spot Detection, Front Assist with Active Cruise Control, Rear Traffic Alert, Multi-Collision Brake, beats Audio, Volkswagen's Modular Infotainment System and much more.

T-Cross will be manufactured for Europe and ROW markets in the Pamplona plant in Spain along side the Polo. Brazil (for South America) and China will build and develop their own versions for their respective markets.

T-Cross may be revealed as early as March at the Geneva Motor Show or later in the year (September) at Paris Motor Show.

All new SAIC Volkswagen Lavida spied in China

Autohome.com.cn revealed only a few days ago a heavily camouflaged new generation SAIC Volkswagen Lavida and FAW Volkswagen Bora twins - read here - more volkswagen mqb sedans on their way.

Now Autohome.com.cn has images
without camouflage that reveal the exterior design of the all new SAIC Volkswagen Lavida, designed and made for China.

This all new Lavida also has grown in dimensions with a total length of 4670mm (+65mm), width of 1806mm (+41mm), height of 1474mm (+14mm) and wheelbase of 2688mm (+78mm) according to the article from Autohome.com.cn.

Powering the new generation Lavida are EA211 engines -  a new 1.5L (85kW / 110hp) naturally aspirated engine joins the family replacing the 1.6L and 1.2T (85kW / 110hp) and 1.4T (110kW / 150hp) turbo engines finish the engine range according to the article.

The SAIC Volkswagen Lavida and FAW Volkswagen (New) Bora were both launched in 2008. Both based on a modified PQ24 platform (fourth generation Golf/Jetta 1998-2004) aimed at the Chinese market. Both have been successful in China with the Lavida sedan selling over 2.5 million units and Bora sedan selling over 1.6 million units (sales figures from 2008-2016).

As far as we can guess and know both Lavida and Bora will spawn MQB based SUV variants (to be revealed by 2019) as well as new hatch (SAIC VW Gran Lavida) and wagon (FAW VW C-Trek) versions as Volkswagen Group China aims to fill all the niches it can in China to retake the sales lead.

More Volkswagen MQB sedans on their way!

With the all new Jetta in the press, now is the time to reveal future sedans in the VW stable to come within the next 24 months.

Volkswagen is getting ready to add
to three more sedans to the MQB list that includes Passat, Lamando, Magotan, Virtus and the soon to be released 7th generation Jetta.
 
As seen below the pre-production prototypes testing the all new SAIC-VW Lavida and FAW-VW Bora now on MQB are due in 2019 after their SUV counterparts are revealed this year.

In fact according to a VW screen capture the hatch version of the SAIC-VW Lavida, the SAIC-VW Gran Lavida will enter production in 2018. Expect all the usual MQB goodies but torsion suspension for Chinese roads for the SAIC-VW Lavida and FAW-VW Bora .

The third sedan not pictured but of interest to both USA and Chinese readers. is The second generation NMS Passat now based on MQB and will built in Chattanooga, Tennessee and Anting, China by SAIC-Volkswagen will be in production by the end of 2018.

Exciting times ahead in the world of Volkswagen.

2018 Volkswagen Atlas earns 2017 Top Safety Pick Rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS)

Herndon, VA  — Volkswagen of America, Inc. today announced that the all-new, seven-passenger 2018 Volkswagen Atlas, when equipped with available Forward Collision Warning and Autonomous Emergency Braking (Front Assist), has earned a 2017 TOP SAFETY PICK award by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).



The 2017 TOP SAFETY PICK award is issued to vehicles that have earned “Good” ratings in IIHS crash tests evaluated in five categories: frontal impact moderate overlap; frontal impact small overlap; side impact; roof strength; and head restraints. It must also offer an autonomous emergency braking system (AEB) that earns at least an advanced rating for front crash prevention. The 2018 Atlas earned a “Superior” rating on the AEB test.   

“Volkswagen’s commitment to safety and driver assistance technology is unwavering. We take great responsibility to ensure our driver assistance technologies get smarter,” said Hendrik Muth, Senior Vice President, Product Marketing and Strategy. “The Atlas is an example of our ongoing commitment to offering these features, and we are proud it has been recognized as an IIHS 2017 TOP SAFETY PICK.”

The Atlas is the only vehicle in its class to offer the Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, which is standard across all trims. This system builds on the premise that a collision is rarely a single, instantaneous action, but rather a series of events that follow the initial impact—the most significant of which can cause additional collisions. The Automatic Post-Collision Braking System addresses this by applying the brakes when a primary collision is detected by the airbag sensors, thus helping reduce residual kinetic energy and, in turn, the chance of additional damage.

Other driver assist systems available in the Atlas include Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC); Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning (Lane Assist), front and rear Park Distance Control (ParkPilot), Parking Steering Assistant (Park Assist); High Beam Control (Light Assist) and Overhead View Camera (Area View).
