All new MQB Volkswagen Passat for China & North America Revealed!

This is the 2019 SAIC / 2020 Volkswagen Passat for China & USA

These pictures from the Chinese Government Accreditation Office show the design lines off. With a hint of Arteon on the front and side views and the rear is similar to the current NMS Passat, produced in Shanghai and Chattanooga.

This new Passat is based on the modular transverse matrix kit (MQB) and now has a wheelbase of 2871mm (+68mm), length of 4933mm (+63mm) width of 1836mm (+2mm) and height of 1469mm (-3mm).

Powering the SAIC Passat in China will be EA211 1.4T 150hp / 110kW and EA888 2.0T with outputs of 186 / 140kW and 220hp / 162KW mated to DSG transmissions.

Expect all MQB technologies when revealed later this year.

More Volkswagen MQB sedans on their way!

With the all new Jetta in the press, now is the time to reveal future sedans in the VW stable to come within the next 24 months.

Volkswagen is getting ready to add
to three more sedans to the MQB list that includes Passat, Lamando, Magotan, Virtus and the soon to be released 7th generation Jetta.

As seen below the pre-production prototypes testing the all new SAIC-VW Lavida and FAW-VW Bora now on MQB are due in 2019 after their SUV counterparts are revealed this year.

In fact according to a VW screen capture the hatch version of the SAIC-VW Lavida, the SAIC-VW Gran Lavida will enter production in 2018. Expect all the usual MQB goodies but torsion suspension for Chinese roads for the SAIC-VW Lavida and FAW-VW Bora .

The third sedan not pictured but of interest to both USA and Chinese readers. is The second generation NMS Passat now based on MQB and will built in Chattanooga, Tennessee and Anting, China by SAIC-Volkswagen will be in production by the end of 2018.

Exciting times ahead in the world of Volkswagen.

Comeback for Volkswagen after more than 30 years

New challenge in motorsport with the technology of tomorrow: Volkswagen is developing an all-electric race car for the world's most renowned mountain race. The all-wheel drive prototype is scheduled to be at the start of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb in Colorado, USA on 24 June 2018. Its goal: to set a new record for electric cars at the finish line which is at 4,300 metres elevation. The new motorsport project is part of Volkswagen's process of transforming itself into the leading producer of electric vehicles. By 2025, the Volkswagen brand will already be offering 23 all-electric models.

"The Pikes Peak hill climb is one of the world's most renowned car races. It poses an enormous challenge and is therefore excellently suited to proving the capabilities of upcoming technologies," explains Dr Frank Welsch, Member of the Board responsible for Development. "Our electric race car will be equipped with innovative battery and drive technology. The extreme stress test on Pikes Peak will give us important findings that will benefit future development, and it will showcase our products and their technologies."

The vehicle is being developed by Volkswagen Motorsport in close cooperation with Technical Development in Wolfsburg. "The race on Pikes Peak is a new beginning for us. We are developing an all-electric race vehicle for the first time," explains Sven Smeets, Volkswagen Motorsport Director. "The project is also an important milestone in our new motorsport orientation. Our team is literally electrified about taking on this incredible challenge." Volkswagen Motorsport last participated in the Pikes Peak mountain race in 1987 with a spectacular twin-engined Golf which barely missed finishing. "It is high time for a rematch," continues Smeets.

The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb – which insiders also call the ‘Race to the clouds' – has been run since 1916 in the Rocky Mountains near Colorado Springs. The race course is 19.99 kilometres long, and it climbs 1,440 metres to the summit at 4,300 metres above sea level. The current record in the class of electric prototypes is 8 minutes 57.118 seconds, which was set by US driver Rhys Millen (e0 PP100) in 2016.
