SAIC Volkswagen MPV spied testing in China!
This is the first public exposure of the new SAIC Volkswagen MQB based Minivan / MPV to compete with the likes of the SAIC GM Buick GL8 and Chrysler Pacifica people movers. It can be seen testing with the SAIC Volkswagen T-Cross.

We at VWNEWSBLOG suspect this is the 3rd generation of the Sharan nameplate. Which could be about to go to China for production. As it is likely the largest market for people movers since the adoption of the SUV craze has swept the globe and dwindled other markets such as sedans, coupe and cabriolets etc.

We also like to speculate this could potentially be an option for the North American Region as a Minivan option. The minivan option is missing from the North American market. VW has stated in the past that it strongly believes that the Minivan market may pick up again eventually. This can be seen with the I.D. Buzz which will go in to production from 2022.

Also with strong ties between VW NAR and SAIC Volkswagen which both markets share Passat sedans, Tiguan SUVs, Teramont/Atlas SUVs & Tharu/Tarek SUVs. Could this model go to Chattanooga?

Visually the Passat 430 PHEV is distinguished by Volkswagen's LED C-lighting for electric / hybrid vehicles (Phideon PHEV, Tiguan L PHEV, Passat GTE, e-Golf & e-up). Which starts at the fog light housing and continues with a chrome like trim running along the front bumper. Visually the front looks more like a Tiguan R Line with black gloss trim where the fog lights would normally sit. The side wheel arch trim has textured finished trim, perhaps not quite production ready at this stage??? The rear has a lower black gloss styled trim that runs along the bottom of the rear bumper with faux rear exhaust trims.

The Tharu R Line will also have between 16 inch to 19 inch alloys and a sunroof according to the article from Autohome China.

With the T-Cross, Volkswagen is expanding the spectrum of Sport Utility Vehicles to include a small model. “I am more than one thing” – that is the claim with the introduction of the T-Cross. “More” is thus to be understood as a program: offering more, but nevertheless not costing more. The world première of the new T-Cross will take place in the autumn. Until then, Volkswagen will shorten the waiting time with a first look at the future SUV in the small vehicle class.


T-Cross, T-Roc, Tiguan, Tiguan Allspace and Touareg will now be the five SUV formats of the brand in Europe. But, the new T-Cross will enrich the SUV range in China and South America, as well. The 4,107-mm-long Volkswagen is designed with charisma, always front-driven, functionally conceptualised, and cleverly constructed. At home in the city, and ready for the small and large adventures both inside and outside the urban jungle.

The modular transverse matrix (MQB) creates a surprising amount of room. For example, the back seat can be adjusted lengthwise – for more knee room or more room for luggage. The positive influence of the modular transverse matrix affects all areas. Thus, the T-Cross is entering the market as one of the safest vehicles of its class, guaranteed through excellent crash properties and a large spectrum of assistance systems. Standard on board: the “Front Assist” (ambient traffic monitoring system) and “Lane Assist” (lane departure warning system). “I am more than one thing” – the new T-Cross.

All new MQB Volkswagen Passat for China & North America Revealed!

This is the 2019 SAIC / 2020 Volkswagen Passat for China & USA


These pictures from the Chinese Government Accreditation Office show the design lines off. With a hint of Arteon on the front and side views and the rear is similar to the current NMS Passat, produced in Shanghai and Chattanooga.

This new Passat is based on the modular transverse matrix kit (MQB) and now has a wheelbase of 2871mm (+68mm), length of 4933mm (+63mm) width of 1836mm (+2mm) and height of 1469mm (-3mm).

Powering the SAIC Passat in China will be EA211 1.4T 150hp / 110kW and EA888 2.0T with outputs of 186 / 140kW and 220hp / 162KW mated to DSG transmissions. 

Expect all MQB technologies when revealed later this year.
