What Memphis Summer Dreams are made of: Corvette Cruises + Achievement Status

August 01, 2017 0
Cool and inspiring enough for even the likes of James Bond himself, the Corvette has had appearances in various major films, and has been on many status quo wish lists for decades.  Displaying the need for freedom and high level of prowess on the road, the Corvette has long been a symbol of sophistication, raw power, and the sleekest engineering on the planet. It was originally designed as a show car for the 1953 Motorama display at the New York Auto Show, and enough interest was stoked for GM to consider making a publicly sold version.

The earliest generation was often labeled the "solid-axle" models, as the ones with independent rear suspension did not come about until the second generation. Great care was taken to hand-build 300 Corvettes by the 1953 model year, and a legendary automobile line was born. During the following year, 3,640 models were built, and some execs lost a bit of sleep at night, as they sold a bit slowly. Due to the slower movement, production was limited to 700 models for the following year. Proudly sporting a V-8 Engine as an option, the 0-60 drive time was drastically improved by 1.5 seconds.

In 1956, a brand new body was introduced, and the drastic visual element of the missing taillamp fins altered the finished product quite a bit. An optional fuel injection system was made available the following year, and a major milestone was then achieved: it was one of the first mass-produced engines in history to reach 1bhp per cubic inch, which Chevy's advertising agency used to incorporate the slogan "one hp per cubic inch," luring buyers to familiarize themselves with the brand that was now taking off.

Just two years ago, the C7.R was developed, and made its debut on the track during the 2015 Rolex Motorsports Reunion. From Paul Barrett Parkway to Sam Cooper Boulevard right here in Memphis, there are many fantastic locations to take a 'Vette for a spin, and the conditions during the summer are the absolute best to get out and happily burn some rubber. Those making their way into the dealership are mesmerized by the 460-hp thrown down by the V8 engine, and the 0-60 in 3.7 seconds liftoff time. The edge-lit LED turn signals are framed in black chrome housing, and the ultra-cool high-mounted stop lamp is mounted smack-dab in the middle of the rear spoiler.

Car and Driver is a monthly publication out of the "everything-auto" state: Michigan. Read by more than 1.23 million, they are known for a bit of a sordid slant, which has been proven to be greatly appreciated by car enthusiasts worldwide. Also known for covering ground that is sometimes thought to be controversial, they even inject ample doses of politics and other daily grind material in their reviews. The Corvette was selected by Car and Driver as part of their 10Best for the year, another honor that steers many towards the purchasing point.

With a goal of laying out just what a pleasurable driving experience can be, vehicles that offer outstanding value, excel at their given mission, and deliver an over-the-top driving experience are the ones that usually make the cut. Feel free to pay us a visit and see how the flowing design of a Stingray suits you: there are many perfectly-engineered instruments to help you keep your focus on the road, and a wildly impressive power-to-weight ratio.

Available Magnetic Selective Ride Control is a real-time damping system that actually takes a read of the road every millisecond, and has the ability to adjust for new pockets of terrain in under 15 milliseconds flat. The Corvette is one of those vehicles that is immediately recognizable and distinguished: the Chevy family is proud to be mentioned in first-rate publications, while Summer's Kiss lingers for a bit longer.

Chuck Hutton In-Depth Racing Report: Corvette Grand Sport's Indy Appearance

May 09, 2017 0
Everyone that works here in sales and service is always apt to get excited when the best of a car line is scheduled to make an appearance just where it deserves: at a world-class racing event. The Corvette Grand Sport is slated to be the official pace car for the 2017 Indianapolis 500, and will lead the way to the green flag on May 28, for the 101st running of this important event. This is the 14th time that a 'Vette has been selected to serve as the signature pace car; the first time was just two years after the bicentennial year of 1976. No other vehicle has put in the time for the job of pace car more often tan the Corvette, and Chevy is proud to once again pace the Indy 500. The race itself along with the brand have shared a rich and robust partnership since the 1920's, and this year's event promises to be exciting.

The Indy 500 truly is the Greatest Spectacle in Racing, with a permanent seating capacity of over 250,000. The 100th anniversary was celebrated 6 years ago, and Alexander Rossi is currently the defending champion. As many diehards know, drivers race 200 laps around the track counterclockwise, covering a total distance of 500 miles. Always scheduled on or near Memorial Day, this is one of the true tests of durability and agility for car and driver. During 1912, the purse for this event was $50,000... and limited to 33 as well as a mandatory mechanic. Technical specs for the Indy 500 are currently written by IndyCar, and the Corvette will once again proudly lead the pack for all of the participants involved.

There are many reasons why everyone here at Chuck Hutton feels that the Corvette is the best pick to lead the pack as far as the Indy 500 is concerned. Its 460-hp LTI Direct-injected V-8 engine under the hood is a great means of power for the vehicle, and 8-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission guides the way in terms of shifting. The Grand Sport is also able to be purchased with a carbon-fiber ground effects package, and has top-notch standard magnetic ride control as well as unique springs that help with suspension and ride. The optional Z07 package provides carbon ceramic-matrix brake rotors, and the 285/30ZR19 front and 335/25ZR20 High-performance tires will provide you the best navigation possible in any location.

The Grand Sport's Brembo Carbon Ceramic brake system has 15.5-inch rotors with six-piston calipers in the front, and 15.3-inch rotors with four-piston calipers in rear. You can also opt for the unique Indy 500 graphics package, which will allow you as the driver to aptly display your pride for this landmark event. When equipped with the Z07 Package, this Corvette can accelerate from 0-60 MPH in just 3.6 seconds, and cover the all-important quarter mile in just 11.8. One thing that we as a dealership are incredibly proud of is that Chevy was founded in the same year that the Indy 500 blazed its original path, over a century ago in 1911. We will be more than happy to show you the bells and whistles of any model made by a brand that sells more than 4 million units a year, and is destined to continue branching out as strong as ever.

The Best Look Yet At The 2018 Corvette ZR-1

December 09, 2016 0

The arrival of the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 is getting closer and closer and new spy photos have us more excited than ever. Typically sporting plenty of camouflage, the now barely-covered road car has us thinking this could be the brand’s best yet.

Up until now, fake panels and coverings made it difficult for us to grasp the true silhouette of the highly-anticipated ZR-1. However, we’re now able to see a bulging hood and revamped front end, complete with three large intakes and a massive splitter. The rear features a huge wing and spoiler.

Anybody else thinking what we’re thinking? Considering the larger hood, it is likely that the supercharger of the ZR-1 will be larger than the 1.7-liter version of the current Z06. It is also likely that this beast will bust out more than 700 horsepower. We’ll have to wait until the Detroit Auto Show next month to find out for sure.

If you’re a Memphis ‘Vette fanatic, you’re probably just as eager as us to get behind the wheel of the 2018 Corvette ZR-1. Since we have a bit of a wait, be sure to come by and see us at Chuck Hutton Chevy to check out our current lineup!
