A Memphis Milestone in Efficiency: Chevy Bolt Enjoys Top Honors from Consumer Reports

August 22, 2017 0
From sights like the Fire Museum to the interesting nooks of the Cotton Exchange, every single Memphis resident has abundant opportunities to enjoy living in a city that has a distinct flair, and is a noticeable notch above the rest in hospitality. Other city dwellers in locations such as the Pacific Northwest may be under the impression that car buyers in Memphis are not as concerned as others with electric cars, and the improvement of the environment. But many conversations with those on the lot have told us otherwise, and we hear from many avid consumers who are excitedly watching the disappearance of the need for fuel on the very near horizon.

It was just recently announced that the Chevy Bolt electric vehicle has claimed first place for all-electric vehicles in Consumer Reports' testing, by achieving the feat of 250 miles on a single charge. In another industry test, the Bolt went head to head against the 2016 Tesla Model S 75D, which ran out of juice at the 235-mile mark. The Bolt Triumphantly pushed on for another 15 miles, and we are proud to offer a vehicle that is the main contender as far as the electric performance spectrum is concerned. The Consumer Reports Auto Test Center pushes cars to their performance limits across 327 acres in spacious Connecticut, where there is plenty of time and space to make a positive or negative ruling on performance.

The cars team tests around 60 vehicles per year, driving them for a grand total of around 900,000 miles. Data regarding the reliability and satisfaction of the cars is collected from our subscribers to add weight to the decisions, and a full-time staff of 30 individuals is needed to complete the demanding and thorough job. Consumer Reports purchases every vehicle they test from a dealer, and this gives them the opportunity to be very thorough with the ways in which result in the best possible information given to the customer. Each vehicle is driven for 2,000 break-in miles over the course of several weeks, before the very structured testing even begins.

Cars are not chosen for just their ability in the range category: the Bolt did exceptionally well for its very agile handling, and the cabin that is pretty noise-free. You could just about purchase two Chevy Bolts for the price of what the Tesla Model S 75D is, and Car and Driver states that it is “also good enough to be worthy of all the breathless hype showered on the Tesla Model 3”. Taking a bit of the range anxiety out of the equation and offering killer features such as a 360-degree view camera system, The Chevy Bolt is an excellent choice for anyone looking to take the gas-powered element out of their daily commute.

Summer Safety Tech Watch: Chevy Now Touts Technology that Acts as an Extra Set of Eyes

June 28, 2017 0
Just last week, we marked the official beginning of summer in the state of Tennessee, as well as right here in the Memphis metro. Barbecue will be simmering, live bands will be playing on into the night, and the children of the area have a delightful reality ahead of them: they are out of school for a few quick months. This is the time when drivers have to be more careful than ever, as any of the neighborhood kids may pick the driveway perch right behind your vehicle to get some playtime in.

The majority of backover accidents happen because the driver does not properly take in their surroundings before lurching out of the driveway, and the U.S. Department of Transportation claims that 40 percent of severe crashes occurred in residential areas. 24 percent of these crashes occurred in driveways, and undoubtedly drivers were in a hurry.

It is hard to slow it down when you may be late for work or an appointment, and leaving from home is that danger zone where children may be lurking behind you. Fortunately for the many Memphis area drivers that are looking to boost safety on their commute, Surround Vision Technology is available! For now, it's integrated into the all-new 2018 Equinox, and provides a 360-degree bird's eye-view around the vehicle.

Intended to help assure safety when coming in or out of the driveway, Surround Vision acts as multiple sets of eyes that will scan the area for you. There are four cameras working for you here simultaneously: the standard Rear Vision Camara, a forward-looking camera placed in the front grille, and two side-looking cameras under each left or right mirror.
When drivers shift into reverse and get ready to roll, the birds-eye view is displayed neatly on the center stack instrument panel. Situated right here are also images from the forward and rear looking cameras, so you can quickly scan the entire area before departing. We want to assure you that the safest way to clear the area is to WALK around the car before leaving: some toddlers are small little tykes, and may need to be spotted by the human eye!

The Surround Vision feature is available on the 2018 Chevrolet Bolt EV, Equinox, and Traverse. Rear Vision Cameras can be found on the 2018 Chevrolet Bolt EV, Camaro, City Express, Colorado, Corvette, Cruze, Equinox, Express, Impala, Malibu, Silverado, Silverado HD, Sonic, Spark, Suburban, Tahoe, Traverse, Trax, and Volt. We are proud as a dealership to offer numerous ways that you can feel safe on the road, and part of the Chevy promise is to uphold a longstanding tradition of above average safety features.

Keep in mind that pets and toys left strewn about are some of the biggest lures for small children, and that if you know you have a cute puppy or bikes in the yard, kids may follow. Other activities in the driveway like sidewalk chalk and lemonade stands are abundant in the Memphis metro during the summer: stay safe and keep your eyes open during the longest and most savored days of the year!

Stronger-bodied and Safe for The Long Haul: The 2018 Equinox's Luster

June 13, 2017 0
On the very cool travel website known as “Thrillist.com”, we recently ran across an awesome article that offers up the fine points of road trips you can embark on from Memphis. Ranked near the top was Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park: Just 17 miles away, it has three interlocking loops that you can hike or run on, and canoe trips you can take right through the cypress swamp. This and other locations such as Village Creek State Park would be incredibly involved tasks for the new Equinox to conquer: the recent shedding of extra pounds and improved body structure will be sure to have you raving about its features and many mobile abilities.

For this 2018 redesign, the vehicle has rid itself of nearly 400 pounds, which chalks up to ten percent of its mass. This results in a much more responsive, fun, and noticeably safe driving experience. It wasn't just the weight loss that the designers deemed a big deal: the all-new body has been optimized to glean top safety ratings as well, which it no doubt will not have trouble claiming. The 1.5-L turbo engine offers a large balance of fuel efficiency, backed up by performance that won't let you down when you need it most. The 2.0-L turbo engine offers 252 horsepower, and can navigate the 0-60 mph test within around 7.2 seconds. Whether you are looking for a smooth experience accelerating, or turning corners, the 2018 Equinox is an overall very light drive, which allows for a greater feeling of precision behind the wheel.

The high and ultra-high strength steel that is placed in the body structure of the Equinox is the base for a very able “safety cage” that envelopes the passengers. Together with the Equinox's restraint systems, energy is managed in such a way during a crash that protection of all occupants is at its latest and greatest capabilities. Reducing the need to account for chassis flex in the tuning elements of the suspension system paves the way for a much stiffer body structure, and this allows engineers to focus more on the comfort of the ride itself, and handling various attributes with greater precision. The lower weight also gives the Equinox a huge edge in fuel economy, and this current model delivers EPA ratings of 32 mpg, as well as 29 mpg highway.

If you opt for the diesel version, you will clock an impressive 40 mpg on the highway, which will inspire you to jump on the notion of taking the trip you wanted to this year to visit your long-lost college roommate or any relatives you haven't seen for awhile. Once you arrive, you'll be able to fully enjoy the ample cargo space, multiple Chevrolet connectivity options, and large list of safety features. The turbo-charged engines won't hurt either: you can gleefully race away into the sunset, far from whatever ails you in the cubicle, or the frenzied pace of the classroom.

Hidden underfloor storage space and a flattened cargo floor both make the task of loading and unloading much easier, and the many technologies used to make the Equinox safer will immediately have a grave effect on your day-to-day driving habits. Safety Alert Seat, Surround Vision, Forward Collision Alert with Following distance indicator, and other great advances are all present to assure that you don't have even the least amount of worry while you are transporting those most precious to you from A to B. Providing customers with fuel-efficient vehicles that won't break the bank, Chevy has a real winner on their hands with the Equinox: come see just how awesome this vehicle named after celestial coordinates will be for you.

Chuck Hutton In-Depth Racing Report: Corvette Grand Sport's Indy Appearance

May 09, 2017 0
Everyone that works here in sales and service is always apt to get excited when the best of a car line is scheduled to make an appearance just where it deserves: at a world-class racing event. The Corvette Grand Sport is slated to be the official pace car for the 2017 Indianapolis 500, and will lead the way to the green flag on May 28, for the 101st running of this important event. This is the 14th time that a 'Vette has been selected to serve as the signature pace car; the first time was just two years after the bicentennial year of 1976. No other vehicle has put in the time for the job of pace car more often tan the Corvette, and Chevy is proud to once again pace the Indy 500. The race itself along with the brand have shared a rich and robust partnership since the 1920's, and this year's event promises to be exciting.

The Indy 500 truly is the Greatest Spectacle in Racing, with a permanent seating capacity of over 250,000. The 100th anniversary was celebrated 6 years ago, and Alexander Rossi is currently the defending champion. As many diehards know, drivers race 200 laps around the track counterclockwise, covering a total distance of 500 miles. Always scheduled on or near Memorial Day, this is one of the true tests of durability and agility for car and driver. During 1912, the purse for this event was $50,000... and limited to 33 as well as a mandatory mechanic. Technical specs for the Indy 500 are currently written by IndyCar, and the Corvette will once again proudly lead the pack for all of the participants involved.

There are many reasons why everyone here at Chuck Hutton feels that the Corvette is the best pick to lead the pack as far as the Indy 500 is concerned. Its 460-hp LTI Direct-injected V-8 engine under the hood is a great means of power for the vehicle, and 8-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission guides the way in terms of shifting. The Grand Sport is also able to be purchased with a carbon-fiber ground effects package, and has top-notch standard magnetic ride control as well as unique springs that help with suspension and ride. The optional Z07 package provides carbon ceramic-matrix brake rotors, and the 285/30ZR19 front and 335/25ZR20 High-performance tires will provide you the best navigation possible in any location.

The Grand Sport's Brembo Carbon Ceramic brake system has 15.5-inch rotors with six-piston calipers in the front, and 15.3-inch rotors with four-piston calipers in rear. You can also opt for the unique Indy 500 graphics package, which will allow you as the driver to aptly display your pride for this landmark event. When equipped with the Z07 Package, this Corvette can accelerate from 0-60 MPH in just 3.6 seconds, and cover the all-important quarter mile in just 11.8. One thing that we as a dealership are incredibly proud of is that Chevy was founded in the same year that the Indy 500 blazed its original path, over a century ago in 1911. We will be more than happy to show you the bells and whistles of any model made by a brand that sells more than 4 million units a year, and is destined to continue branching out as strong as ever.
