GRANDVILLE, Mich.,––The Honda Accord has been America's best-selling midsize sedan since it became available in the U.S. In fact, 13 million units have been sold since it's entrance in the American market, which means one Accord has been sold every 2 minutes for the last 41 years! The 10th generation Accord will arrive on lots this coming fall with a brand new design, interior, and body structure.
The 2018 Honda Accord made its world-wide debut this morning in Detroit and live on YouTube. Honda's Senior Vice President, Jeff Conrad, took viewers through the Accord's long-standing success, his own experience with the Accord, and finally, the 2018 remake. Coming all the way from being the first Honda car made in America to being America's best-selling non-luxury sedan, this generation Accord is the most sporty, refined, and responsive model yet.
This remake has been one of the most dramatic yet and was built to evoke new emotion and premium appeal like never before. The exterior was uniquely designed in real light in LA, as opposed to a studio, while the interior was designed to model a concert hall that would provide elation upon entering. The bones and the heart of the new 2018 Honda Accord are what will carry the driver's excitement from the cosmetic appeal to the performance.
The 2018 Honda offers the following features:
-Panoramic view from the drivers seat
-Wider stance
-Longer wheel base
-Lower center of gravity
-3 new engine options, including 2 turbos
-10-speed automatic
-Adaptive damper system
-Aluminum intensive chassis
-6-speed manual
This will be the first time a turbo is offered with the Accord, and a Honda sedan at that. The two new turbo engines include a 1.5L direct-injected that can get up to 192 hp, and a 2L iVTEC valve train that shares the basic design of the powerplant in the Civic Type R. The 2L turbo engine will get up to 252 hp and 273 lbf-ft of torque, which is the highest output of any production Accord to date. The lighter, more rigid body, made with 29% ultra-high-strength steel only adds to this car's functionality and safety appeal.
The only thing you might miss about the old Accord, is the lack of a coupe variant with the 2018 model. Although there won't be a coupe, the sport trim and 6 speed manual will provide the same feel coupe buyers look for.
