Commercial Van Sales In America - March 2017

U.S. commercial van sales declined 8% in March 2017, continuing a slide that began at the beginning of the year.

Through the first-quarter of 2017, commercial van sales are down 5%, with most of the blame cast upon small commercial vans such as the Chevrolet City Express, Ford Transit Connect, Mercedes-Benz Metris, Nissan NV200, and Ram ProMaster City. 

 Come to think of it, that's ever van in the segment.

Granted, the Ford Transit – America's top-selling commercial van overall – is also in decline, unable to match the furious sales pace it recorded in 2016, its second full year on the market. Transit volume has decreased by nearly 6000 units already this year.

 But there remains plenty of evidence to suggest that small commercial vans are not the way forward. Too much space is lost, too much money is paid, and not enough efficiency is gained.

Commercial Van Sales In Canada - March 2017

Commercial van sales rose 14% in Canada in the first-quarter of 2017, buoyed by a 46% year-over-year increase in sales of the class-leading Ford Transit.

 Through the end of March, the Transit generated three out of every ten full-size commercial van sales in Canada. Together, the Transit, E-Series, and Transit Connect own 42% of Canada's commercial van market.

But big headway has been made in early 2017 by Mercedes-Benz's full-size Sprinter and Ram's full-size ProMaster. Those two vans accounted for 17% of Canadian commercial van sales in 2016's first-quarter; 25% in the same period this eyar.
