Polo & Virtus now available with beats Audio package in Brazil

August 14, 2018 0

Turn up the volume: here come the New Polo and Virtus equipped with the Beats premium sound system

It sounds better than good: Volkswagen shows its musical side. Beginning this month, the New Polo and the Virtus can be equipped with the Beats premium sound system. The novelty, which is already arriving at the dealerships for the Comfortline and Highline versions, carries all the technology of one of the most reputable brands of the professional audio market, as well as exclusive visual items.

The Beats package was developed jointly with the BeatsAudio sound specialists. Its premium sound system has 300 watts and 8-channel digital amplifier. The high-fidelity sound is provided by four loudspeakers, two tweeters and one subwoofer with special adjusts.

The New Polo Beats and Virtus Beats arrive as part of the 2019 lineup, aligned with the Beats brand proposition, targeting the public of aspirational customers, mostly young, who does not give up  status and look always for products that are a reference in the technology market. These are the first Volkswagen models to offer the sound premium brand in the national  market.

Both are equipped exclusively with the 200TSI engine, with up to 128 cv and automatic six-speed transmission. The Beats lineup will be available in four different body colors (Sirius Silver, Platinum Gray, Crystal White and Ninja Black) with a three-year, unlimited mileage warranty.

Sound and visual exclusivity

The Beats lineup adds up a series of exclusive items for the Comfortline and Highline versions of the New Polo and Virtus. Externally, the New Polo equipped with the Beats sound system shows the version badge on the front fenders and has the mirrors painted in Tornado Red - in all body colors.

Internally, the highlight is the New Polo Beats dashboard finish, with the same color (Tornado Red) of the external rear view mirrors. Also red are the seats stitches and the front floor mats.  The exclusive door sills complete the set. The Virtus and New Polo equipped with the Beats package exhibit the sound brand logo in the A pillar (close to the windscreen), right over the tweeters.

Global success

The New Polo and Virtus are global products that arrived in the national market offering new references in style, technology and handling. The New Polo, for instance, has an exclusive design, different from other markets, inspired in polls consulting Brazilian customers and focusing on the regionalization of Volkswagen products. The result is an exclusive style, with strong character lines.  The Virtus, by its side, had its world debut in Brazil, and is already obtaining success in other markets.

The Comfortline and Highline versions of the New Polo and the Virtus are offered exclusively with the 200 TSI engine, with a 6-speed automatic transmission. This transmission allows manual Tiptronic sequential changes, operated through the gear level or the shift paddles at the steering wheel.  The driver counts also with the sport mode option (position 'S'), which changes the gear change moment to higher engine speeds, providing a faster acceleration, for an even more dynamic vehicle behavior.

With three cylinders and displacement of 999 cm³, the 200 TSI is part of the EA211 family - which is characterized also by the modularity. A Total Flex, this engine is able to ride on gasoline, ethanol or a mix of both fuels in any proportion.  This engines maximum output is 128 cv (94 kW) using ethanol and 115 cv (85 kW) with gasoline at 5,500 rpm, with a 200 Nm maximum torque from 2,000 to 3,500 rpm, both with gasoline or ethanol.

Excellent cost-benefit ratio

All New Polo and Virtus versions carry standard electric-assisted steering, air-conditioned, power windows in the four doors (the front windows with 'one touch' function for closing and opening), electric lock, dual parabolic headlights and folding key with remote control.

The Comfortline version is equipped with split folding rear seat, adjustable steering column (height and distance), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), fog lights with 'cornering lights', Composition Touch infotainment system with 6.5" touch screen, 15" light alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, power external mirrors, front arm rest with object holder, darkened rear lights and multifunctional steering wheel, among other items.

The Highline version adds to the Comfortline option the "Kessy" keyless door-opening system and engine starting through a button in the central console, cruise control, 'Climatronic' air-conditioning, folding front-passenger seat and two USB ports for charging, cooled glove compartment, fog lights with static 'cornering lights', LED daylight running lights (DRL), 16" light alloy wheels, floor mats and leather covered multifunctional steering wheel with shift paddles and glossy black fittings in the cabin.

Among the benefits of the MQB Modular Strategy is the possibility of adopting luxury-class technologies in large-scale models. Thus, the New Polo and the Virtus can offer in the Highline version the second generation of the Active Info Display, the Discover Media system with 8-inch touchscreen and smartphone appearance, as well as two 2-ampere USB ports, among other items. Only the lights/icons in the display’s lower edge are installed as hardware. Navigation information can be displayed in 2D or 3D on a 10.25-inch screen, the size of a tablet. Its 1,440 x 540 pixels resolution allows showing extremely precise and high-quality graphics. The navigation mode, for instance: in this case, the speedometer and tachometer are displaced to the sides to create more space for the map.

Maximum gradings in security

All New Polo and Virtus versions are equipped with four airbags - two frontal and two lateral. Also part of the standard items list, the ISOFIX ® and top-tether systems provide more safety and easy-fixing for child seats.

The Volkswagen New Polo and the Virtus achieved the maximum classification in the tests performed by Latin NCAP, which evaluates new cars sold in Latin America and Caribbean. This way, both models figure among the safest automobiles sold in Brazil, with five stars for adult and child protection. The Latin NCAP tests include an analysis of frontal impact - at 64 km/h against a deformable small overlap barrier (40%) -, side impact (against a deformable barrier mounted on a trolley crashing at 50 km/h against the vehicle) and side impact against a pole - the vehicle is launched sideways at 29 km/h into a pole. The child's protection classification is performed through the evaluation of the dynamic behavior of the children retention systems (child seats) in frontal and side tests, as well as the safety and practicability of installation for these dispositives.

The Latin NCAP has also granted the New Polo and Virtus the Advanced Award, conceded to vehicles that comply with pedestrian protection criteria - the Volkswagen's models were the first vehicles sold in Brazil to receive this prize. The evaluation is based on tests simulating accident situations involving pedestrians, according to standards established by European legislation.

Lowest repairability indexes

Volkswagen is the brand with the best repairability indexes in the country, according to the Car Group 2018 ranking of CESVI Brasil (Centro de Experimentação e Segurança Viária - Experimentation and Road Safety Center). The New Polo and Virtus show this: both have the best repairability index among all participating vehicles, with grade 10, the same obtained by the up! and cross up!.

The lower the grade (in a scale going from 10 to 60), the better will be the vehicle's repair time and cost. Therefore, the New Polo keeps not only the best classification in its category, but also among all vehicles from different segments evaluated by CESVI Brasil (as at June 2018).

  • Virtus arrives at Brazilian dealerships in January 2018

São Bernardo do Campo - Volkswagen presents Virtus, a global car, unprecedented and arriving with new interpretations in style, innovation, high performance and safety. First sedan built on the MQB Modular Strategy in the Country, the model arrives in the Brazilian market in January 2018 with new design references, use of space and comfort in the category of premium sedans. In addition, the model will be the first car in Latin America to use artificial intelligence to help drivers on a daily basis.

"We are advancing rapidly in our product offensive with the revelation of the Virtus sedan just 60 days after the launch of the Novo Polo. It is another step towards gaining a relevant position in the Latin America region. Virtus is already born with the stamp of innovation: it is a pioneer in the use of artificial intelligence, to help the owner to better know and enjoy Virtus in daily use, "says Pablo Di Si, President and CEO of Volkswagen South America and Brazil .

Virtus has trim levels that follow the most stringent quality standards of Volkswagen sedans in the world. It will have engine and transmission options that will be offered according to the particularities of each market. In Brazil, the main highlight for the Virtus will be the mechanical assembly of the TSI engine up to 128 hp and six-speed automatic transmission.

Strong design from all angles

Virtus brings the unique visual language, developed based on customer research and focused on the regionalization of Volkswagen products. It has its own personality - following the shape and function of a sedan - and presents an unprecedented style. The result is a dynamic design, with fast lines - especially in the "C" column (after the rear doors) and connected, giving the sedan a very elongated silhouette, thanks to the flexibility of the MQB Modular Strategy.

FrontThe highlight of the front is the crease that edges the air intake and cuts the space between the main optical assembly and the fog lights. In Virtus, the large surfaces of the fog lights and direction indicators draw attention to the side of the car. They end at angles with three-dimensional contours. Between them are two air intakes: one in the shape of a "V" in the middle and a second narrow inlet that extends across the entire width. The result is that the Virtus visually has a very wide "mouth" thanks to the contour of the lower bumper grid.

SideThe Virtus adopts the double arrow line on the side. From the "B" (that between the doors) back, the model brings even more elongated and fluid traits. At 4.48 meters in length, Virtus is one of the largest of its direct competitors. As a basis for comparison, it is 42.5 inches longer than the New Polo, also developed on the MQB Modular Strategy. This completely changes the perspective of the side of the vehicle.

Rear with double lanterns and striking visual identityVirtus brings big flashlights. They connect the mudguards with the trunk lid and have a reverse angle, similar to the Jetta. Another highlight is the baffle in the upper region of the lid, evidencing the sporty look. The board sits well in the center of the trunk lid, between the lanterns, creating a harmonious layout. The bumper features a one frame at the bottom, which runs across the rear.

Large interior and excellent use of space

Reference in the segment, the wheelbase in the Virtus is 2.65 meters (exactly the same as the current Jetta), that is: 8.5 cm more than the Novo Polo (which already has one of the largest cabins of the segment). With this, the Virtus establishes a new reference in comfort and use of space in its category. One more benefit of the flexibility of the MQB Modular Strategy. The height of the Virtus is 1,468 millimeters (4 mm more than that of the Novo Polo) and the width is the same: 1,751 mm.

With enough space to accommodate three adults in the back with comfort worthy of the best mid-size sedans, the Virtus has board access facilitated by the wide opening angle of the rear doors, which are larger than the Novo Polo's.

More than the capacity to accommodate five adults, the Volkswagen sedan can carry large objects. Not for less: there are 521 liters capacity in the trunk, one of the largest in the category and enough to store a large amount of luggage.

Panel focusing on technology and connectivity

The focus of cab development has been on the continued growth of dial-up scanning as well as connectivity. With horizontal orientation, the panel promotes interaction between the all-digital Active Info Display panel and infotainment systems.

With this, Virtus brings the second generation of Active Info Display (feature unprecedented in this category), Discover Media system with 8-inch touch screen and smartphone appearance, plus three USB inputs, among other items. Discover Media enables the mirroring of smartphones through the Mirrorlink, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto platforms. In the Active Info Display, instruments are implemented virtually via software. Navigation information can be displayed in 2D or 3D on a 10.25-inch screen, the size of a tablet, with extremely accurate and high-quality graphics.

Exemplary handling and excellent performance

Virtus suspension set-up contributes to excellent handling and comfort in road conditions on the streets and roads of Latin America. Depending on the market, the Virtus can be equipped with 200 TSI engine and 6-speed automatic transmission. This transmission offers the Tiptronic sequential manual shift option, operated via the shift lever or the shift paddles on the steering wheel.

The maximum power of this engine is 128 hp (94 kW) with ethanol and 115 hp (85 kW) with gasoline at 5,500 rpm, with a maximum torque of 200 Nm (20.4 kgfm), with gasoline or ethanol, from 2,000 to 3,500 rpm. Equipped with this engine, the Virtus accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 9.9 seconds and reaches top speed of 194 km / h (data with ethanol).

Safety Reference

With the MQB Modular Strategy, Volkswagen manages to reduce the total weight of the vehicle while building Virtus so that it is one of the safest models in its segment. Most of Virtus' body structure is made up of special high and ultra high strength steels with hot shaped parts.

When equipped with the 200 TSI engine, the Virtus is fitted as standard with ESC - Electronic Stability Control. This system recognizes an early stage of a critical shooting situation to happen. Compares the driver's commands with the reactions of the vehicle to this command. If necessary, the system reduces engine torque and brakes one or more wheels until it reaches the stability condition.

The ESC includes a number of other electronic assistance features: HHC (Hill Hold Control) or Ramp Start Assist Control, HBA (Hydraulic Brake Assist System) or BAS, XDS + or Electronic Differential Lock, BSW (Bremsscheibewischer - RKA + (Monitoring of tire pressure), among others.

Cognitive Manual

Volkswagen Virtus will be Brazil's first automobile to bring unprecedented connectivity and scanning capabilities. The sedan will offer the "cognitive manual" - which uses IBM Watson to respond to drivers questions about the vehicle, including information contained in the car manual. This solution allows a new way of interacting with the vehicle and offers a new technological experience.

Any questions about the car can be answered by this smart assistant, simply and quickly. The My Volkswagen application has Watson technology to answer questions in Portuguese and Spanish.

Like Internet search engines, the Volkswagen app will have typing fields and a microphone so the user can ask their questions orally - the language can be natural, as in an informal conversation. The system recognizes accents and is able to learn the more you interact with it. It is a totally new and interactive way to launch Virtus, a model that will revolutionize the Brazilian market.

Novo Polo is coming to the Brazilian market. Built on Volkswagen's MQB Modular Strategy, the model represents a new car concept and will revolutionize the premium compact segment with space, technology, performance and comfort previously available only on premium vehicles.

Novo Polo is being launched in Brazil almost simultaneously with Germany to serve a customer who seeks much more than mobility and also design, innovation and high performance.

To receive the Novo Polo, Volkswagen invested R $ 2.6 billion in product development and in the modernization of the Anchieta Plant. Part of the company's investment schedule in Brazil of R $ 7 billion by 2020, the R $ 2.6 billion contribution includes development, manufacturing modernization, product certification and validation tests, local development of parts, qualification of personnel, as well as actions for the launch of the models in Brazil. The investment in the Anchieta Plant includes the production of Virtus, a sedan scheduled for the first quarter of 2018, also developed on the MQB Modular Strategy.

The new Polo will begin to be sold in November in the more than 500 Volkswagen dealers in Brazil with three options of engines and two of transmission. There are four versions: Polo, MSI Polo, Comfortline 200 TSI Polo and Polo Highline 200 TSI. The model has a full warranty of three years, with no mileage limit.

Design - a unique car, especially for Brazil

Novo Polo is a global model that comes to the national market with exclusive front design, inspired by research with Brazilian customers and focused on the regionalization of Volkswagen products.

Its proportions are dynamic, with a much more elongated silhouette, because the inter-axle distance, external length and width have grown, while the height has remained practically the same. The design team took advantage of the realignment of these three dimensions to create a sports pole and totally superior.

The result is a compact car with a very expressive design. They are 4,057 mm long, with 2,565 mm wheelbase, 1,751 mm wide and 1,468 mm high. With the longest wheelbase, it was possible to move the wheels closer to the ends and, consequently, shorten the balance, which gives the car a much more sporty image. They are 804 mm in the front balance and 688 mm in the rear balance.

In relation to the model previously manufactured and sold in Brazil, the Novo Polo gained in length (167 mm), between-axes (100 mm) and width (100 mm), being 21 mm lower. The gauges are larger, now 1,524 mm at the front and 1,501 mm at the rear. The coefficient of form (Cw) is 0.333, making the Novo Polo a reference in its segment.

The ceiling line is longer and more elegant. At the rear, it attaches to a baffle in the ceiling. A thin line on the side of the body runs parallel to the roof line. It visually lowers the center of gravity of the Novo Polo.

The key details of the model include its long line of side windows - the New Polo is the only Volkswagen that has a line of windows that ends up in both front and rear ascension. The "C" column, in particular, that now reaches beyond, makes the car's style more dynamic in this area.

Made for Brazil, inspired by people

The front of the Brazilian Polo is unique and was developed from the result of opinion clinics with Volkswagen customers. The result was a style of its own, with strong lines of character.

The major highlight is the crease that lines the air intake and cuts the space between the main optical assembly and the fog lights. Well marked, this line of character had as a reference the style of the Volkswagen Arteon and gives the National Polo a distinctive visual identity.

The large surfaces of the fog lights and direction indicators draw attention to the side of the car. They end at angles with three-dimensional contours. Between them are two air intakes: one in the shape of a "V" in the middle and a second narrow inlet that extends across the entire width.

Here, one more difference of the Brazilian model: the New Polo produced in the factory Anchieta visually has a "mouth" greater than the one of the European model. The contour of the lower bumper grille is larger, aligning the front look of the national model with the expectations of the customers.

The headlights and radiator grille form the "face" of the Novo Polo, which extends across the width of the vehicle. The bumper was designed to enhance the width of the vehicle and the hood, with well-defined contours, is larger than before.

Unpublished side lines

An arrow-shaped double line is the trademark of the Novo Polo design. The surface of this line is slightly widened and ends with a tapered cut down. The doublemost line above starts at column "C" and projects visually to the front mudguards.

The second, below, develops from the 3D graphics of the taillights and also extends forward in the front fenders, where it rises slightly, finding the top line. This line of character defines the side profile of the car, forming a strong section of "shoulders" and giving the Novo Polo a lowered and sporty attitude.

Sharp highlights on the hood - They come out of columns "A" and run "V" -shaped to the inside of the headlights and radiator grille. In addition to these lines, two other style elements run through the middle of the hood and end in the radiator grille.

The upper crossbar of the grille is painted in the color of the bodywork and joins the lines of the headlights. This gives the hood a lower visual appearance. At the same time, it reinforces the greater width of the Novo Polo.

The low-profile headlights give the car a more focused, forward-looking appearance. The second radiator grille bar is chrome and starts on the sides of the Volkswagen logo, joining the chrome headlamps. The new signature of LED daytime running lights - next to fog lights - is also unmistakable.

Rear with clean and balanced style

The new trapezoidal taillights have a distinctive luminous signature. The optical assembly forms an inverted "L", creating a personalized night vision for the Novo Polo.

A horizontal line under the lanterns on the rear cover, which moves to the bumper, reinforces the width of the New Polo from this perspective. The diffuser, integrated to the bumper, brings elements that evidence the sportiness.

Revolutionary interior: welcome to the digital world

A new interior and panel design for compact Volkswagen models is emerging with the Novo Polo. The focus of the development of the cabin was the continuous growth of the digitization of the displays and controls, as well as the connectivity, which required unprecedented solutions. Another premise of the project: to give the interior of the New Polo unique personality.

The designers have completely escaped the visually oriented look of the panel of other generations of the Polo and develop a daring horizontal architecture. As always happens in internal design, this architecture is initially defined by the modules used in the panel. The interaction between the Active Info Display panel and the infotainment systems made new interpretations necessary.

8-inch infotainment

The new panel architecture starts with the goal of positioning the infotainment system far higher than before to be able to stay in the driver's direct line of sight. Since the display had to visually attach to the instruments to create an "island", it was also clear that the central air vents had to go down. All of this has resulted in an architecture for the contemporary panel, introducing a new era of scanning and connectivity in the category.

A high visual and control axis - All main modules - except those of the air-conditioning unit - have been integrated into the top panel. Located in the middle of the bright black "island" is the infotainment system screen. The only additional button in this area is the flashing-alert switch. On the left, the bright black "island" of the controls reaches the instruments level. This creates a coherent landscape for the digital cockpit, especially in conjunction with the Active Info Display.

At the level below are the air-conditioning controls. The dashboard is slightly inclined for the driver in the center. This also happens with the center console, with the shift grip and buttons of the various driving functions of the car.

Three levels of finish

The Novo Polo has an exquisite finish, elaborated according to research results with its potential clients. For the Highline version a sophisticated interior has been developed, in a darker tone. The black color predominates inside the model. There is gray tungsten insert in the panel, with high brightness - the central section, framing the infotainment system and the instrument panel, is in "piano black" (bright).

The seats in the Highline version feature touch-friendly fabric trim with triangular-shaped embossing, which transmits class to the interior of the hatch.

The customer of the Comfortline version seeks value perception, which is achieved through color contrast. Therefore, a combination of Paladium gray with a larger Titan black insert was developed at the bottom of the panel and through the interior of the New Polo. The center section of the panel has a glossy black insert.

The seats in the Comfortline version also have embossed fabric, contrasting patterning and enhancing the comfort aspect of the version.

The 1.0 and 1.6 MSI versions of the Polo have a light interior in the Paladium gray color that enhances the cabin width - the onboard space is one of the main qualities of the model. The banks have a coating with a structured design, which transmit robustness.

Dirigibility is one of the highlights of Novo Polo

The driver sits at the wheel of the Novo Polo and, in any version of the model, finds the ideal driving position - the driver's seat has a gradual height adjustment as standard on all versions of the model and the longitudinal adjustment field is the largest of the segment (288 mm). There is provision of height adjustment and steering wheel distance for the model from the Comfortline version.

All versions of the Novo Polo are equipped with steering system with electric assistance. In addition to the excellent comfort and precision, one of the main advantages of electric assistance in relation to the hydraulic assistance systems is only to demand energy when necessary. This represents a reduction in fuel consumption of up to 3% when compared to a steering system with hydraulic assistance (conventional).

The electronic steering control features a number of mappings, allowing for proper load for each situation (such as parking maneuvers, medium and high speeds) and combining more comfort and excellent directional stability. The Novo Polo system has an active steering wheel return to the center position.

The electrical assistance system does not use fluid in its operation, which is another advantage in relation to the hydraulic assistance. In addition to being better for the environment, the user has one less item to worry about in maintenance.

The suspension of the suspensions of the Polo also contributes to the excellent handling. The model has McPherson independent front configuration and interdependent at the rear, with torsion axis. The springs and shock absorbers have loads defined according to Brazilian conditions, guaranteeing more comfort.

For Brazil, the suspension of the Novo Polo was raised by 20 mm in relation to the European version, gaining a front stabilizer bar of 20 mm diameter (version with TSI engine). The larger free space in relation to the ground guarantees greater robustness in running.

The Novo Polo is fitted with "green" tires with low rolling resistance, helping to reduce fuel consumption - without neglecting high dynamic performance, handling and braking. Three measures are available: 185/65 R15, 195/55 R16 and 205/50 R17. Important point for safety: all versions of the Novo Polo have wheels with five fixing screws.

Special steel structure - lower weight, greater safety

Among the various factors that influence the fuel consumption of a car, the weight accounts for approximately 25% - that is, 1/4 of the total. Any reduction in the weight of the car, therefore, means a decrease in fuel consumption.

With the MQB Modular Strategy, Volkswagen manages to reduce the total weight of the vehicle while building the New Polo in order to make it one of the safest models in its segment. More than that: the MQB guarantees high rolling comfort and great dynamic performance.

The New Polo is bigger, more secure and equipped than the Polo manufactured and sold previously in Brazil. Despite all the gains, it is 44 kg lighter than its predecessor (comparative between versions 1.6). This is achieved through a combination of factors such as the application of new building media, the use of low-weight materials and the downsizing of engines (which also have a reduced weight thanks to the application of aluminum).

The combination of low weight and high safety is only possible with the adoption of innovative manufacturing technologies. More than 50% of the body structure of the Novo Polo is made up of special steels, high and ultra-high strength.

The MQB modular structure has a large application of extremely strong hot-formed steel - about four times stronger than a conventional steel plate - to reduce the weight of the vehicle, while vehicle performance in crash tests, increasing cabin safety. The hot-formed steel is in 18.5% of the structure of the Novo Polo.

The deformable steering column further contributes to safety, further reducing the risk of injury to the driver.

New Polo has the lowest reparability index in Brazil

Volkswagen is the brand with the best reparability indices in the country, according to the Car Group 2017 ranking of CESVI Brasil (Center for Experimentation and Road Safety). And the new Polo arrives to reinforce the strategy of low maintenance cost - the model obtained the best general index of reparability among all the participating vehicles, with classification 10, the same one of the up! and cross-up !.

The lower the score (on a scale ranging from 10 to 60), the less time and cost of repairing the vehicle. Thus, Novo Polo maintains the best result not only within the category, but also among all vehicles of different segments evaluated by CESVI Brasil (base January 2017).

Upper Class Comfort Pattern

The specially rigid structure allows the Polo to achieve comfort levels of higher class vehicles in terms of acoustics and vibration. It uses a pendulum type coxinization system, which provides excellent noise and vibration insulation. Most of the components are made of aluminum alloy, which provides high strength and contributes to vehicle weight reduction.

The MQB Modular Strategy also allows the New Polo to set new standards in its class with high static torsional stiffness - which directly benefits the car's comfort and handling. In parallel, the dynamic stiffness of the Novo Polo is also excellent, which brings benefits in acoustics, vibrations and running comfort.

The interior of the Novo Polo was developed through studies of ergonomics and functionality. The result is perceived by the clean design of the panel, the anatomy of the seats, the proper location of the equipment and the ease of handling of the controls. It is also evidenced in the harmonic combination of high quality coatings and coatings.

The Novo Polo offers excellent cabin space. Seated in the back seat, passengers have plenty of room for legs, heads and elbows. The access on board is facilitated by the wide angle of opening of the doors. In addition, the front doors have three opening stages.

The central armrest (standard from the Comfortline version) can be adjusted longitudinally by 100 mm. Under it there is a compartment of 1.26 liter capacity. The glove compartment has 8 liters of capacity and has refrigeration (Highline version). In the front doors there are niches with capacity for 1.5 liter bottles - the back doors take 1 liter bottles.

With 300 liters capacity, the luggage compartment of the Novo Polo easily accommodates the luggage of all passengers. This volume can be increased to 1,071 liters by simply rebounding the rear seat backrest. The compartment has courtesy light. From the Comfortline version the rear seat is split as standard, which allows to accommodate larger objects and even leave space for up to two occupants behind.

Four-wheel disc brakes

The Novo Polo has four-wheel disc brakes as standard in the TSI versions. The discs are 276 mm in diameter on the front wheels and 230 mm in diameter on the rear wheels.

Disc brakes collaborate for better performance and provide greater resistance to fading, the loss of efficiency due to heating (for example, in a sawing descent).

All versions of the Novo Polo are equipped with M-ABS, which includes the ABS anti-lock braking system (one of the most modern available) and other safety features, such as electronic brake force distribution (EBD), which electronically distributes braking forces between the front and rear axles, ensuring stability and safety.

Also included in the M-ABS is the TC (Traction Control), which has the function of reducing wheel slippage during acceleration or when the vehicle starts to unravel in sharp corners by electronically controlling engine torque.

The ESS (Emergency Stop Signal) is part of the M-ABS "package", which acts as an alert to avoid rear collisions. If the driver depresses the brake pedal sharply, while maintaining more consistent braking, the system switches the brake lights intermittently on the 3Hz frequency.

After this braking, with the vehicle static, the brake lights stop flashing and the ESS switches the warning lights on the 1.25Hz frequency, indicating that the vehicle is stationary.

Also included is the MSR (Motorschleppmomentregelung or Engine Brake Effect Control), a system that prevents the wheels from slipping on low friction floors due to the brake-motor effect. This feature acts when the driver quickly releases the accelerator pedal and the gear reductions, increasing the torque through the electronic throttle control.

Electronic Stability Control

In the TSI versions, the Novo Polo is fitted as standard with ESC - Electronic Stability Control. This system recognizes an early stage of a critical shooting situation to happen. Compares the driver's commands with the reactions of the vehicle to this command. If necessary, the system reduces engine torque and brakes one or more wheels until it reaches the stability condition.

Optional for other versions of Novo Polo, the ESC includes a number of other electronic assistance features:

Hill Hold Control (HHC) or ramp start assistance control - On slopes above 5%, the system keeps the vehicle braked for up to 2 seconds, after the driver relieved the brake pedal. The brakes are released progressively during acceleration, allowing the starting of the vehicle with more comfort and tranquility on ramps.

HBA (Hydraulic Brake Assist system) - recognizes emergency braking by means of the drive speed and the pressure applied to the pedal. The BAS actively increases the brake pressure, which is then modulated by the ABS intervention. When the driver reduces the pressure on the brake pedal or there is a reduction in the speed of the vehicle below a minimum limit, the braking assistance stops.

EDS (Elektronische Differenzialsperre) - On trails or low traction on one of the drive wheels, the electronic differential locking activates the wheel brake with less traction, transferring the torque to the wheel with greater traction, providing efficiency at the exit of the vehicle.

This "smart traction" system works automatically, without the driver having to push a button on the dashboard. In addition, the system operates in corners and at speeds up to 80 km / h.

XDS + (electronic differential lock), an integrated electronic stability control (ESC) function to improve the dynamic behavior of the car. The XDS + increases agility and reduces the need for steering wheel movement by selectively intervening the wheel brakes internal to the curves on both axes and allowing a transfer of the available torque from the engine to the outer wheels.

In addition, the XDS + works with any floor grip conditions. This results in a more precise handling, with more traction and agility in the corners.

BSW (Bremsscheibewischer - Automatic Brake Disc Cleaning) - innovative system that identifies situations of wet brake discs in rainy conditions. The brake system works to bring the pads of the front brake discs in a fraction of a second and imperceptibly to the driver in order to dry the components and ensure the least braking space possible.

The BSW operates above 70 km / h and with the windshield wiper driven. This technology, previously only present in luxury cars, guarantees Novo Polo much more safety and precision in braking.

The ESC includes the RKA + (Tire Pressure Monitoring), a system that checks tire pressure and collaborates for greater safety. The feature works through the sensors that monitor the mode of vibration and frequency of the tires, detecting if there was loss of filling pressure in one or more tires.

Maintaining the right pressure helps not only for more comfort and safety - it also helps the tires last longer and reduces fuel consumption, generating lower CO2 emissions.

Another feature is the GMA (Giermomentaufbauverzögerung or Turning Control), which reduces the possibility of turning the vehicle on floor with different levels of friction. The system also provides different braking forces at the time of deceleration until the wheel rotation is equalized.

Active Safety - accident prevention assistance

Post-Collision Automatic Braking System - Among the Active Safety features provided by the Modular Strategy MQB is the Automatic Collision Braking System, an exclusive item in the segment, that automatically triggers the brakes of the vehicle when it engages in a knock, to reduce residual kinetic energy. The activation of the post-collision braking system is based on the detection of the initial collision by the airbag sensors.

Also among the safety features is the fatigue detector, which looks at how the driver drives and compares with the first 15 minutes of driving. If you detect a deviation in driving behavior, the machine alerts you, suggesting a stop to rest and coffee.

Four airbags as standard in all versions

The new Polo is standard on all versions, with four airbags - two front and two side. Large, side pockets protect the head and chest and restrict body movement during impact, significantly increasing occupant safety.

Airbags are part of the Passive Safety package that was adopted for the Novo Polo. Combined with safety belts, they aim to reduce head and chest injuries in occupants in the event of an accident. When the collision sensors detect an impact that exceeds the value established to trigger the bags, the airbag control unit then triggers the gas generator. This item inflates the pouches by 35 to 45 milliseconds.

The bags, inflated, support head and chest, distributing and absorbing forces throughout their area in the best possible way. Just 120 milliseconds later, the gas that inflated the bags is expelled and the airbag deflates.

Proper protection is achieved when occupants are in the correct position using the seat belt - seat belt tensioners, standard equipment on all Volkswagen models with airbags, work together.

ISOFIX® system, top-tether and alert for unlocked seatbelts

The Novo Polo is equipped as standard with ISOFIX® and top-tether systems for fastening child restraints (saddles).

In addition, the seat belt indicator on the multifunction display informs you that the driver and passenger of the front seat are buckled. There is also a sound reminder of buckling the seat belts for the front seats. In the back seat the belts are retractable and there are three head restraints for the occupants.

TSI 128 hp and 200 Nm engine - the highest torque in the category

The Comfortline and Highline versions of the Polo are available exclusively with the 200 TSI engine, which is combined with the 6-speed automatic transmission. With three cylinders and 999 cm³ of displacement, the 200 TSI engine is from the EA211 family - which is also characterized by its modularity.
Total Flex, this engine is capable of running with gasoline, ethanol or the mixture of the two fuels in any ratio. The maximum power is 128 hp (94 kW) with ethanol and 115 hp (85 kW) with gasoline at 5,500 rpm, with maximum torque of 200 Nm (20.4 kgfm), with gasoline or ethanol, from 2,000 to 3,500 rpm.

Equipped with this engine, the Novo Polo accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 9.6 seconds and reaches top speed of 192 km / h (data with ethanol).

'200 TSI' - Understand the benefits of high torque

The new Polo launches a new strategy of Volkswagen - the symbol '200 TSI' (referring to 200 Nm of torque, generated by the TSI engine, with turbocharger technology and direct injection of fuel). This new nomenclature is applied to the rear cover of the New Polo with TSI engine, reinforcing the greater torque of the segment of premium compact, and in low rotations.

Torque is largely responsible for the feeling of performance, displacement, when the body "glues" on the seat at speed resumes. This ensures sportsmanship, driving pleasure and safety for safe overtaking and overcoming steep climbs with ease. It's that feeling that the car has strength!

Torque can be measured in Newton meter (Nm) or kilogram force meter (kgfm). Both units are the measure of force (1 N) at the end of a lever that is one meter in length. In the case of the TSI engine of the Novo Polo, the torque equals 200 Nm or 20.4 kgfm.

The TSI engine delivers the maximum torque of 200 Nm from 2000 rpm. This ensures better acceleration with fewer gear shifts and helps save fuel.

Engine 1.6 MSI - efficiency and performance

The 1.6 MSI engine that makes up the Novo Polo's (always combined with the 5-speed manual gearbox) is also in the EA211 family, with four cylinders and 16 valves (4 valves per cylinder). Total Flex, has 1.598 cm³ of displacement and has block and head made of aluminum, which collaborates to reduce the weight of the set.

With four valves per cylinder, two for inlet and two for exhaust, the engine has dual valve control integrated into the cap, with variable intake control. The new 1.6L MSI engine has a variable inlet control and integrated exhaust manifold, forming a single part, with liquid cooling.

The 1.6L MSI engine has dual cooling circuit, which allows different temperatures for the block and the head - the system uses two thermostatic valves. The exhaust manifold forms a single piece with the head. The cold start system that eliminates the use of the auxiliary tank for gasoline is another highlight in this motorization.

The maximum power is 117 hp (86 kW) with ethanol and 110 hp (81 kW) with gasoline at 5,750 rpm, with maximum torque of 162 Nm (16.5 kgfm) with ethanol and 155 Nm (15.8 kgfm) with gasoline, both at 4,000 rpm.

With this engine, the Novo Polo accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 9.6 seconds and reaches 193 km / h of maximum speed (ethanol).

Engine 1.0 MPI - award-winning efficiency

The third engine in the EA211 family offered for the New Polo is the well-known and award-winning 1.0 MPI three-cylinder. Also combined with the 5-speed manual gearbox, it has 999 cm³ of displacement, is Total Flex and has a block and head made of aluminum, which contributes to reduce the weight of the set. Compared to an engine of the same displacement, but with four cylinders, the new EA211 is 24 kg lighter.

With four valves per cylinder, two for intake and two for exhaust, the head has variable intake control - the variation is continuous, which reduces fuel consumption and emissions and significantly improves the engine response at low revs. The compression ratio is 11.5: 1.

The EA211 1.0l was the first engine in the country in this range to receive a cold starting system that does not require the use of the auxiliary tank for gasoline. Engine starting is assisted, which means that it is not necessary to keep the key engaged in order for it to run - just a light touch of the key for the ECU to control the entire starting process.

The maximum power is 84 hp (62 kW) with ethanol at 6,350 rpm and 75 hp (55 kW) at 6,250 rpm with gasoline. The maximum torque is 102 Nm (10.4 kgfm) with ethanol and 95 Nm (9.7 kgfm) with gasoline, both at 3,000 rpm.

With this engine, the Novo Polo accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 13 seconds and reaches 170 km / h of maximum speed (ethanol).

New six-speed transmission - Comfort, performance and low fuel consumption

AQ250-6F transmission from Novo Polo

The new AQ250-6F Tiptronic six-speed automatic transmission that equips the TSI versions of the Novo Polo is designed for cars with transverse engines and has gears with torque converter coupling.

The AQ250-6F gearbox features a locking torque converter in a variety of conditions of use, which avoids internal sliding of the component and reduces fuel consumption.

The transmission offers the optional Tiptronic sequential manual gearbox operation, operated via the shift lever or the "shift paddles" on the steering wheel. The driver also has the sports mode ("S" position), which changes the moments of the gearshifts for higher revs, providing faster acceleration, for a more dynamic vehicle behavior.

Among its strengths are its compact dimensions, low weight and perfect gear shifting.
