Top 30 Best-Selling Vehicles In Canada - March 2017

April 04, 2017 0
2016 Honda Hr-V silver
Canada's 20 best-selling autos – not even the top 30, but just the top 20 – accounted for precisely half of all new vehicle sales in March 2017.

Record March sales for the Ford F-Series, Canada's best-selling line of vehicles, along with surges from GM's pickups, huge upticks from some of Canada's most popular cars, and high-flying SUV/crossover sales propelled the industry to the best March results ever.

Not everyone got in on the fun. Year-over-year, Ram P/U sales slumped 6% in March 2017. The Hyundai Elantra, Canada's fourth-best-selling vehicle in March 2016 but only the 12th-ranked vehicle in March 2017, fell 35%.

But of the 30 most popular vehicles in Canada in March, 22 sold more often in 2017 than in the same period of 2016.

We've already published March lists for the 20 best-selling cars, 20 best-selling SUVs and crossovers, and complete figures for every pickup truck, links to which you'll find below.

Throwing all those vehicles into one group results in this list of the 30 best-selling vehicles overall.

We end up with four pickup trucks, two minivans, ten cars, and fourteen utility vehicles.

Historical monthly and yearly sales figures for any of these top-selling vehicles can always be accessed through the dropdown menu at GCBC's Sales Stats page, and for those not viewing the mobile version of this site, near the top right of this page, as well. Mobile users can now thumb across the table for full-width access.

Top 20 Best-Selling SUVs In Canada - March 2017

April 03, 2017 0
2017 Nissan Rogue orange
Just as it claimed top honours in the United States in March 2017 and in the first-quarter of 2017, the Nissan Rogue was Canada's top-selling SUV in March 2017 and leads the second-ranked Honda CR-V by 16 units through the end of the third month.

The CR-V, still in short supply at many Honda stores, remains a hot seller. Volume jumped 10% in March 2017 as the industry at large grew 7% to an all-time March high. In fact, all six of the six most popular SUVs and crossovers in Canada – and 15 of the top 20 – sold more often in March 2017 than in March 2016.

But it's the Rogue's growth – up 63% in March and 47% in Q1 – that has some wondering if Nissan will not stop at anything to grab Canadian market share. North America's Rogues now come from three factories, and a fourth will bring in a sub-Rogue in a couple of months: it's called the Qashqai.

Nissan is targeting the heart of the growth market, soon replacing the Juke, adding the Qashqai, producing mega-volume with the Rogue, while also marketing the Murano, Pathfinder, and Armada. 53% of Nissan's Canadian March volume stemmed from utility vehicles.

Historical monthly and yearly sales figures for any of these best-selling SUVs and crossovers can always be accessed through the dropdown menu at GCBC's Sales Stats page, and for those not viewing the mobile version of this site, near the top right of this page, as well. Mobile users can now thumb across the table for full-width access. GoodCarBadCar has already published the list of Canada's best-selling trucks in March and will shortly publish a list of Canada's most popular cars.

Top 20 Best-Selling Cars In Canada - March 2017

April 03, 2017 0
2017 Honda Civic hatchback red
Canadian passenger car sales dipped slightly in March 2017, losing market share as SUVs and crossovers and pickup trucks and minivans soared.

But the decline would have been far more significant if not for the momentous year-over-year improvements reported by numerous top sellers, from the most popular Honda Civic through to the Kia Forte, Subaru Impreza, Nissan Altima, and Nissan Versa.

Civic sales jumped 37%, year-over-year, to 8145 units, just the second 8000+ month for the Civic in the last five+ years. Toyota Corolla sales, meanwhile, jumped 32% to 4778 units. The Mazda 3, Chevrolet Cruze, Nissan Sentra, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, and the aforementioned Forte, Impreza, Altima, and Versa all reported double-digit year-over-year percentage increases.

But it was the all-conquering Civic, Canada's best-selling car in 19 consecutive years, that owned 13% of the Canadian passenger car market and now leads the second-ranked Corolla by 4622 units after just one-quarter.

Historical monthly and yearly sales figures for any of these best-selling cars can always be accessed through the dropdown menu at GCBC's Sales Stats page, and for those not viewing the mobile version of this site, near the top right of this page, as well. Mobile users can now thumb across the table for full-width access. Top 11 Best-Selling Pickup Trucks In Canada - March 2017

April 03, 2017 0
2017 Chevrolet Silverado trio
As the Canadian auto industry exploded with 7% year-over-year growth to an all-time March high last month, March 2017 pickup truck volume jumped 12% to 39,473 units.

That's equal to 21% of the overall new vehicle market, up from 20% a year ago.

Midsize pickup truck volume jumped 28% but remains a small part of the overall truck picture. Only 8% of the pickup trucks sold in Canada in March 2017 were small/midsize pickups. Led by the Ford F-Series, full-size pickup truck sales jumped 11% to 36,244 units, 37% of which were Fords. GM's twins, the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, combined for 3294 additional sales.

Combined, the GM full-size and midsize truck duos earned 14,073 total sales in March 2017, outselling the vast Ford F-Series range by 493 units. One year ago, the F-Series outsold that GM quartet by nearly 3000 units.

You can click any model name in the table below to find historical monthly and yearly Canadian sales data. You can also select a make and model at GCBC's Sales Stats page. This table is now sortable, so you can rank pickup trucks any which way you like. Mobile users can now thumb across the table for full-width access.
