Up-Close and Personal with the Camaro: Charging Through the Streets as an Awarded Champion

July 28, 2017 0

The legendary Camaro was built to challenge the most powerful sports coupes in the world. It accomplishes the 0-60 sprint in just 3.5 seconds, and the quarter-mile in just 11.4. Boasting a 650-HP supercharged 6.2-L V-8, it is able to venomously crank out 650 lbs-feet of max torque. The 6-speed manual features a short-throw shifter that feels snug while still being very responsive, while the Active Rev Matching simulates heel/toe shifting, perfectly engaging the throttle to match the wheel speed for the smoothest gear changes possible.

An icon as cool as the Camaro is so stealth that many don't even look over what yearly awards it is able to grab up! Everyone here at Jim Butler pays close attention to its achievements, as it is a vehicle that has been hailed time and time again. Raw power and refined design are the names of the game as far as the Camaro is concerned, and J.D. Powers awarded it the "Most dependable midsize sporty car, five years in a row."

There must be at least three models with 80% of market sales in any given award segment for an award to be presented to a specific model. Chevy has had a strong bounce-back from the auto crisis in general, and our beloved brand has really rivaled moxie against their numerous competitors in the J.D. Powers arena to become the top-awarded brand last year.

Car and Driver celebrated its 50th Anniversary 12 years ago, and is a powerhouse publication located in Ann Arbor , MI. Well-known for doling out the goods on anything auto-related for decades, they took close care to spread the Camaro love last year themselves. Rather than electing a Car of the Year, they get down to business quickly and pick their top ten annually in their own 10Best. The Camaro stole the honors to this award over the course of 2017, and its supercharged performance allows it to dominate heavily in its own class.

Standard engine oil, complex transmission foundations, and coolers within the rear differential serve the purpose of commanding this feisty vessel, while a 36mm high-performance radiator provides the cooling additive to quell the engine after each performance. Kelley's Blue Book also awarded the Camaro "2016 Best Resale Value," solidifying the fact that you can achieve gain in the greenback sector if you ever feel the need to part ways with your beloved possession.

The current Camaro models are known to offer more of everything that will make the driver feel connected to the asphalt, and engaged at every inch of the drive. The available industry-exclusive Performance Data Recorder is a very cool way to log video of your drives, and stores real-time performance data onto an SD memory card. If you are brave enough to let a family member of friend drive your prized possession, this is also a great way to assure that the hands you are leaving your car in are responsible and able.

When you come down to visit us at Jim Butler and check out the Camaro selection on the lot, ask us about Custom Launch Control: it uses Performance Traction Control to keep the rear tires spinning at a healthy rate. Them, it allows you to adjust your launch RPM as well as wheel slippage through the very useful Driver Information Center. It's well-known that Camaros are a cultivated favorite on the drag strip: check out just how powerful and robust the model line really is, before the kiss of summer fades into fall!

Tennessee Torque Addict's Thunder: 2019 Camaro Model Progress

June 07, 2017 0
It was just two years ago when the sixth-generation Camaro went on sale, much to the satisfaction of many here in Memphis and nationwide who have massive love for the vehicle. It utilized the GM Alpha Platform that was shared with the Cadillac ATS and CTS, and boated the trademark McPherson struts in the front that many grew to love. 70% of the components in this build were claimed to be unique to the car, and production returned to the US from Canada. Compared to the previous generation, it was 2.3 inches shorter, .8 inch less wide, and 1.1 inches shorter in the height department.

A ZL1 trim level with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 was available for this year's model, and features a lower grill opening that improves vital cooling function. There is also a new front splitter, and carbon hood insert to removed gusty hot air from the confines of the engine compartment. The 1LT trim now receives the 8-speed automatic transmission assisted by shift paddles as standard gear for the year, and prices were lowered a bit, to the delight of the avid Camaro enthusiast. Just recently outside of GM's Milford Proving Grounds, there have been sightings of more than one camouflaged Camaros making their testing rounds, in an attempt to assure that the models rolling out two years down the road are exceptionally awesome.

Included in the sightings have been the base 4-cylinder model all the way up the chain to the popular and roaring 650-horsepower ZL1. At this early stage in the game, it looks as if the front and rear fascia are being given a bit of a facelift, while the center section of the car will be relatively untouched. We expect lighting in the front and rear to have some modifications that do their best to pair up with the revised styling, but they may not be too entirely different from current models. Even though it's hard to be positively sure, the 2019 Camaro could very likely come with a rockin' and relentless DOHC V8 engine, and the new 10-speed automatic could make its way into many new models.

The 2017 model is already sitting pretty with 4-piston Brembo front brake calipers, a track-cooling package, suede steering, and a nicely-piped dual mode exhaust. Come see us at Chuck Hutton to check out how much you'll love the current model with its comfortable suede and leather upholstery, and see just how great the 1LS, 1LT, and 2LT trims run with a turbocharged Inline-4. The current ZL1 Model goes from 0 to 60 MPH in about 3.5 seconds, and we expect a pleasant boost in these running stats with the 2019 re-vamp as well. From a product line that Motor Trend Magazine called 2016 Car of the Year, we aren't going to expect anything half-assed or shoddy from the Camaro franchise. We encourage all Memphis area Camaro fans to look towards the future in anticipation to see what two years around the corner brings: screeching tires and the purest of pavement engagement will be sure to follow.
