GRANDVILLE, Mich. -- Owning a car is a big responsibility. Like any intricate machine, they require a lot of TLC to keep running at their best, but they can't do it without you! The stellar service department at Serra Honda Grandville can help you with any problem, big or small, but sometimes your lifestyle and other factors may not allow you to pop in as soon as you'd like.
Whatever the reason, we're still here to help with some simple maintenance hacks for your car that you can do yourself until you can come in to see us, as well as some cleaning hacks to keep your ride looking sharp! The best part is: they all use things that you might already have around the house!
1. CLEAR NAIL POLISH FOR CRACKS AND SCRATCHES
If you get a crack in your windshield, it will spread over time if you don't take care of it. In order to prevent this until you can get into the shop, clear nail polish works in a pinch! Just apply a thin layer at either end of the crack, and the resin in the polish will act as a temporary seal to prevent it from spreading. This hack also works on scratches to ensure that the exposed metal doesn't rust until you can get a touch-up!
2. DRYER SHEETS FOR AIR FRESHENING
There are few things more heavenly than the smell of freshly cleaned clothes, and you can get that pleasant scent in your car! Dryer sheets are a great alternative to traditional air fresheners. Throw a couple under your seats or in your air vents for a constantly fresh smell.
3. PLUNGER FOR DENTS
Have a nice dent in the side of your car? Get a plunger! Just place it over the dented surface and pull until the dent pops out.
4. TOOTHPASTE FOR HEADLIGHTS
Hazy headlights not only look terrible, they're also dangerous as filmy build-up can block their light! If you notice a dull or foggy look on their plastic lenses, grab a bottle of toothpaste from your bathroom. Spread it all over the lens, buff it with a cloth, then rinse with water.
5. OLIVE OIL FOR THE INTERIOR
If your interior is looking a little lackluster, buff it with a coffee filter dabbed in olive oil for a shiny finish! Olive oil can also be used on glass surfaces such as your windows and your entertainment display.
