GRANDVILLE, Mich.,––After a long last week of bitter cold temperatures, this wildly mild weather seems like a dream. Let's be honest, even with the warmer temps, winter isn't the ideal season to comfortably do activities outside. But, if you have the right gear and the right attitude, winter can be a total blast! Unfortunately we're not quite in the mountains, or even close, but there are some great hills throughout the mitten where you can have fun carving into the powder. Here are the best places to ski and snowboard in lower Michigan:
Caberfae Peaks
Where: Cadillac, MI
Drive Time: About 1 hour 45 minutes from Grandville
Caberfae is home to 34 runs and the largest day lodge in Michigan!
Boyne Highlands
Where: Harbor Springs, MI
Drive Time: About 3 hours 20 minutes from Grandville
Boyne Highlands offers 55 runs and a handful of terrain parks, plus tubing!
Crystal Mountain
Where: Thompsonville, MI
Drive Time: About 2 hours 5 minutes from Grandville
Crystal Mountain has 58 trails or runs with 27 lit for night skiing/snowboarding, plus they've been rated as a 2017 top 12 ski resort for families in the U.S. and Canada by Conde Nast Traveler.
Treetops
Where: Gaylord, MI
Drive Time: About 3 Hours from Grandville
Treetops is a smaller resort offering about 23 runs, a big tubing run, and a homey resort. It's a great place for little ones to learn.
Nub's Nob
Where: Harbor Springs, MI
Drive Time: About 3 hours 15 minutes from Grandville
Nub's Nob is home to 53 ski runs as well as nordic ski trails and 3 fun terrain areas.
