What better way to celebrate half a century of refined motoring and state-of-the-art performance than with a dream hypercar? In the year when AMG turns 50, the Affalterbach-based performance division of Mercedes-Benz will officially introduce its first hypercar after the Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR AMG of the mid 90s. As confirmed a few days ago, the Project ONE will be a spectacular looking hypercar with pinnacle Formula 1 technology.

Rumored to receive the R50 name (where "R" stands for Renn, which is the German for "racing", and the "50" particle indicates the half-century anniversary of AMG), the hypercar is being co-developed with Mercedes-AMG HighPerformancePowertrains (or HPP) in Brixworth, which is in charge of producing the entire F1 powertrains used by Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team. The body of the R50 will be extremely sleek and aerodynamic to create a sensational drag and diminish air friction. The exterior design, as confirmed by Prof. Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of Daimler AG, will be entirely unique, mindblowing and state-of-the-art.

The Mercedes-AMG Project ONE will be the very first car to offer a full F1 powertrain package. The hypercar will be powered by a hybrid 1.6-litre V6 turbocharged engine fitted with an electric ERS (Energy Recovery system) unit, which offers a combined output of well over 1000 hp. It is said that the R50 will be capable of achieving the golden standard of 1 horsepower per kilogram. Moreover, the Mercedes-AMG R50 hypercar will be equipped with an all-wheel-drive traction system and a purely electric, wheel selective front axle drive concept.

If rumors are to be believed, then the Mercedes-AMG Project ONE should be officially premiered during summer of 2017. Be prepared and stay tuned to Mercedes-Benz-Blog as further information about the AMG hypercar will leake from inside the Affalterbach labs in the coming months!
