Large Luxury Car Sales In America - March 2017

April 10, 2017 0
2017 Porsche Panamera
U.S. sales of full-size flagship luxury cars dipped precipitously during the first one-sixth of 2017 but recovered nicely with an 8% uptick in March 2017.

Thanks to the Mercedes-Benz S-Class's 8% rise to 1434 units, the arrival of the new Porsche Panamera, and more growth from the new BMW 7-Series, and the inclusion of the Genesis G90 (the Hyundai Equus in a former life), sales across the category rose by roughly 330 units.

Tesla estimates from HybridCars.com suggests Tesla sold 3100 copies of the Model S in March, more than enough to outsell the S-Class, 7-Series, and Panamera combined.

That 3100-unit result for the Model S represents a three-month high but a 9% year-over-year decline.

GCBC isn't here to break down segments, an impossible task for any group, but to display sales data for the sake of comparison. The BMW 6-Series is listed here as it now features a "mainstream" sedan bodystyle in addition to its two-door variants, just like the larger S-Class. You can always find the sales results for EVERY vehicle and form your own competitive sets by using the All Vehicle Rankings posts. Sales data for brands such as Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lotus, Rolls-Royce etc. are unfortunately not broken down by model. Tesla, unfortunately, doesn't release model-specific monthly U.S. sales data, but HybridCars.com estimates 3100 March Tesla Model S sales, 6000 YTD.

Large Luxury Car Sales In Canada - February 2017

March 16, 2017 0
After a strong January, February 2017's sales of full-size luxury flagships declined 8%, sliding in large part because of a decline in sales of the top-selling Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

S-Class volume slid 30%, a loss of 28 sales in a category that lost 18 sales. The BMW 7-Series, with 41 sales, tied the Jaguar XJ as the second-ranked models in the class. XJ sales slid to a four-year low in 2016, but if growth continues at this pace, more than 600 XJs will be sold in Canada in 2017.

Sales of the new BMW 7-Series, meanwhile, rose to a four-year high in 2016 and, at the current pace, sales would rise to a five-year high in 2017.

Audi A8 and Maserati Quattroporte sales are higher this year than last, at least through the first one-sixth of 2017, and while S-Class sales tumbled in February, the big Benz is up marginally year-to-date.

Genesis, meanwhile, has contributed 25 sales of the new G90 to the ledger in 2017. Is Hyundai's launch of the Genesis brand going as planned? There's more on that story at Autofocus.ca.

GCBC isn't here to break down segments, an impossible task for any group, but to display sales data for the sake of comparison. You can always find the sales results for EVERY vehicle and form your own competitive sets by using the All Vehicle Rankings posts. Sales data for brands such as Aston Martin, Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lotus, Rolls-Royce etc. are unfortunately not made available in Canada. Tesla doesn't release a monthly Model S sales report, either. ANDC estimates for, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce were 40, 36, and 16 units, respectively, in the first two months of 2017. Tesla sold 100 copies of the Model S in the first month of 2017. GCBC shows the Cadillac XTS and CT6, Hyundai Equus, Kia K900, and Lincoln Continental with midsize luxury cars not because of their size, but because the price points are much more directly comparable.
