IAA 2013: BRABUS 800 Roadster - The super SL 65 AMG boasting 800 hp, 1,420 Nm and 350 km/h

September 14, 2013 0
BRABUS 800 Roadster – based on the Mercedes SL 65 AMG, BRABUS builds the world’s most powerful roadster. The two-seater is powered by a 12-cylinder Biturbo engine uprated by BRABUS T65 RS tuning. It produces 588 kW / 800 hp (788 bhp) of power and a peak torque of 1,420 Nm (1,047 lb-ft). A sprint time of 3.7 seconds from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph) and of 9.8 seconds to 200 km/h (124 mph) are impressive testaments to the car’s special status that is further bolstered by an electronically limited top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph). The exclusive equipment features also include BRABUS carbon-fiber bodywork components designed for maximum aerodynamic efficiency, custom-tailored BRABUS wheels with diameters up to 20 inches and exclusive options for the cockpit.

BRABUS T65 RS tuning unleashes the latent power reserves of the six-liter V12 engine. To this end, the BRABUS engine professionals have developed a BRABUS high-tech Biturbo system with custom high-performance manifolds that feature integrated turbine housings and high-performance turbochargers. The tuning also includes four water-to-air intercoolers, housed in space provided by the BRABUS carbon-fiber hood scoop. Another custom development for the SL 65 power upgrade is the special BRABUS stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system. It features free-flow metal catalysts and ceramic-coated tailpipes with distinctive BRABUS design. An integrated butterfly valve in the exhaust provides an active sound management on the steering wheel: at the push of a button the driver can chose between a discrete “coming home” and a markedly sporty exhaust note.

The newly calibrated engine electronics complete with high-performance mapping for injection and ignition coordinate the perfect interaction of the high-end components while also ensuring compliance with EURO V emission standards. The high-tech lubricants for the entire powertrain are supplied by technology partner MOTUL.

The BRABUS T65 RS engine produces 588 kW / 800 hp (788 bhp) of power at 5,500 rpm and an even more impressive peak torque of 1,420 Nm (1,047 lb-ft), available from a low 2,100 rpm. In the car, peak torque is limited electronically to 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft).

In conjunction with the AMG SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC transmission, whose gears can be shifted automatically or manually with the BRABUS aluminum shift paddles on the steering wheel, the BRABUS 800 Roadster rises to the become the most powerful of its kind. From rest the sports car weighing in at about two metric tons (2.2 tons) sprints to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.7 seconds. The two-door car reaches a speed of 200 km/h (124 mph) after just 9.8 seconds. Top speed is limited electronically to 350 km/h (217 mph).

To master these enormous speeds at all times, a BRABUS aerodynamic-enhancement kit for the SL 65 was developed in the wind tunnel. All components are manufactured from carbon fibers and are available either with a matt or high-gloss surface finish. It goes without saying; they can also be painted in the car’s exterior color.

The BRABUS front spoiler attaches to the lower section of the bumper. It lends the roadster a more sporty appearance and reduces lift on the front axle. BRABUS covers for the side air vents round out the striking front for the SL 65 AMG.

The sides are refined with custom-tailored attachments for the air vents integrated into the front fenders and with rocker panels.

To achieve an optimal aerodynamic balance, the rear section is upgraded with a diffuser insert for the fascia.

As an alternative to the 19-inch stock tires of the SL 65, the BRABUS suspension engineers have developed an exclusive 20-inch high-tech variant. The new BRABUS Monoblock R “Platinum Edition” forged wheel offers the perfect symbiosis of lightweight construction and maximum strength thanks to state-of-the-art manufacturing technology. In addition to the innovative construction, this wheel design also offers unique looks with ten double spokes arranged in two matt titanium and fully polished planes. The front axle is fitted with wheels in size 9Jx20 shod with size 255/30 ZR 20 tires. In the rear, tires in size 305/25 ZR 20 mounted on size 10.5Jx20 wheels transfer the BRABUS 800 Roadster’s power of 800 horses to the asphalt. BRABUS recommends high-performance tires from Continental, Pirelli and YOKOHAMA.

To give the two-seater even more agile handling, BRABUS developed a special control module for the ABC suspension of the SL 65 AMG. It lowers the ride height by about 25 millimeters (1.0 inches).

The BRABUS limited-slip rear differential with a locking rate of 40 percent can enhance handling performance further still.

An exclusive BRABUS fine leather interior can add more luxury and individuality to the two-seater cockpit. The list of options ranges from scuff plates with backlit BRABUS logo and a speedometer with 360-km/h (225 mph) dial to carbon-fiber and wood trim packages in any imaginable color and with a variety of surface finished.

The company upholstery shop creates exquisite BRABUS interiors from especially soft yet durable BRABUS Mastik leather and Alcantara. A prime example for the precision of the craftsmanship is the fully leather-lined trunk of the show car at the 2013 IAA, which like the entire floor of the interior is topstitched with pinpoint accuracy to give it the three-dimensional design of a chocolate bar.

IAA 2013: BRABUS 800 WIDESTAR based on the Mercedes-Benz G 65 AMG

September 14, 2013 0
588 kW / 800 hp (788 bhp) and 1,420 Nm (1,047 lb-ft) instead of the standard-spec 450 kW / 612 hp (603 bhp): with the BRABUS 800 engine conversion, BRABUS offers owners of the new Mercedes G 65 AMG a fascinating performance upgrade. A sprint time of just 4.2 seconds to 100 km/h (62 mph), an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph) and the optional BRABUS WIDESTAR widebody version complete with 23-inch BRABUS forged wheels available in various versions set the tuned off-roader far apart from the rest. The electrically adjustable BRABUS Ride Control suspension offers a perfect symbiosis of excellent ride comfort and safe, agile handling.

The BRABUS 800 engine conversion unleashes the power reserves inherent in the 6.0-liter V12 Biturbo engine. To this end the BRABUS engine specialists developed a high-tech Biturbo system. The exhaust manifolds custom-designed for the G 65 AMG with integrated turbine housings and high-performance turbochargers optimize throttle response and produce a higher boost pressure than the production turbos. Four water-to-air intercoolers arranged under the BRABUS carbon-fiber hood scoop ensure lower charge-air temperatures. This benefits power yield and durability even under extreme conditions such as in the desert. The optimized engine air supply is provided by two air filter boxes in the front fenders.

On the exhaust side there is a BRABUS stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system with free-flow metal catalysts and a sound management system courtesy of a butterfly valve in the exhaust. The high-tech exhaust is controlled with a button on the steering wheel. The V12 can purr discreetly in “coming home” mode or shout out its exhilarating power in the sport position. The sport exhaust adds some visual excitement with its two dual tailpipes – with regular or black chrome finish – exiting on both sides in front of the rear wheels.

The newly programmed engine electronics with special mapping for injection and ignition coordinates the perfect interaction of the high-performance components while at the same time ensuring compliance with EURO V emission standards. The high-performance lubricants for the entire powertrain are supplied by technology partner MOTUL.

The BRABUS 800 engine produces 588 kW / 800 hp (788 bhp) / at a low 5,500 rpm and an even more impressive peak torque of 1,420 Nm (1,047 lb-ft), already on tap from 2,100 rpm. In the vehicle, peak torque is limited electronically to 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft).

The vehicle performance speaks volumes: In combination with the seven-speed automatic transmission and permanent all-wheel drive system the BRABUS 800 WIDESTAR accelerates to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.2 seconds. The top speed is limited electronically to 250 km/h (155 mph). Without the limiter the high-performance off-roader would be capable of reaching a speed of 270 km/h (168 mph).

It goes without saying that BRABUS goes beyond simply tuning the engine of the G 65 AMG. The designers lend the classic G-Class body updated for 2013 an even more striking and dynamic profile with the WIDESTAR widebody version. The front of the off-roader is characterized, among other things, by the powerfully sculpted fender flares. The BRABUS front spoiler, which also fits any G 63 or G 65 without WIDESTAR conversion, attaches to the production fascia and features integrated LED daytime running lights on both sides. But that’s not all: The BRABUS logos integrated into both sides of the aerodynamics component are activated by pulling on a door handle or by operating the keyless-entry remote.

The new dark-tinted BRABUS xenon headlights also contribute to the spectacular front view. The precise-fit headlights, which replace the production lights of the G model, feature special integrated LED daytime running lights that also serve as turn signals. This renders the production turn signals on top of the fenders obsolete. Their apertures are closed by tailor-made clear-coated carbon-fiber covers that add a further sporty note.

The new look for the front end is rounded out by the radiator grille with integrated BRABUS logo and an additional molding below. The BRABUS components for the front end are also available for all G 65 AMG models without WIDESTAR conversion. The BRABUS rear fascia with two LED reversing and fog lights each and the BRABUS roof spoiler with integrated LED brake light are equally suitable for universal use.

The fender flares front and back add 12 centimeters (4.7 inches) to the width of the G-Class body. Integrated LEDs illuminate the running boards of the G 65. They are also activated by pulling on a door handle or by operating the keyless-entry remote. The integrated air vents and the BRABUS attachment components on the doors add further striking highlights when viewed from the side.

The widened wheel wells provide space for BRABUS forged wheels with a diameter of 23 inches. State-of-the-art manufacturing technology ensures that these wheels represent an ideal combination of lightweight design and maximum strength. There are three BRABUS “Platinum Edition” 11Jx23 wheels to choose from: In addition to the popular Monoblock E evo and Monoblock F “Platinum Edition” designs, there is now also the BRABUS Monoblock R “Platinum Edition” forged wheel. This design has nine double spokes arranged in two matt titanium and fully polished planes. It is fitted with high-performance tires in size 305/35 R 23 from BRABUS technology partners Continental, Pirelli or YOKOHAMA.

Another BRABUS high-tech feature is the Ride Control suspension developed in cooperation with technology partner BILSTEIN. An aluminum button sporting the BRABUS logo on the center console lets the driver manually choose between two setups for the two-way electrically adjustable shock absorbers. In comfort mode the off-roader provides exemplary ride comfort that even surpasses the production car. At higher speeds and for a spirited driving style the firmer sports setting offers more dynamic handling and even further increased safety reserves.

Furthermore, the BRABUS Ride Control suspension features automatic damper adjustment. If the vehicle sensors detect that certain parameters such as speed, lateral acceleration and steering angle might lead to a critical handling situation, the system autonomously switches to the firmer sports setting in the blink of an eye. The sportier damper setup further improves the directional stability of the all-wheel-drive vehicle. In return the CAN control unit also recognizes when the driver reverts to a more moderate driving style. In that event the system automatically switches back to the comfort position.

The interior of the G 65 AMG can be customized to the owners’ individual specifications in the company upholstery shop with the BRABUS fine leather program. The choice of colors for the especially softy and breathable BRABUS Mastik leather and the fine Alcantara is virtually limitless. Just as boundless is the selection of upholstery designs and the variety of exclusive wood or carbon-fiber inlays. In this area as well BRABUS can fulfill special color requests and designs, including wood inlays in an especially exclusive yachting design.

The BRABUS product range also includes stainless-steel scuff plates with backlit BRABUS logo and further attractive accessories such as high-quality velour floor mats and BRABUS aluminum pedals and door-lock pins.
