GRANDVILLE, Mich. -- Father's Day is all about showing the bad joke-telling, loud tie-wearing, hard advice-giving guy in our lives how much he's appreciated. While there's someone who fits that description most of our real worlds, there are plenty of memorable patriarchs of the small screen who hold a special place in our hearts.

In preparation for Father's Day, here's RiverTown Honda's picks for Top 10 TV Dads.

1. TIM TAYLOR

If "The Toolman" doesn't top everyone's list of the best TV dads, we don't know who does! Despite hosting the popular DIY show "Tool Time", the witty Tim Taylor is hilariously accident-prone. However, he makes up for what he lacks in actual handiness in natural showmanship. Viewers will remember Tim's avid love for Detroit and Michigan collegiate sports teams, wearing their gear throughout the series. This isn't just because the Taylors hail from suburban Detroit on the show. Actor Tim Allen was actually raised right here in the Mitten in Birmingham!

2. MARTIN CRANE

With his signature plaid shirts and eyesore of an easy-chair, the gruff and taciturn Martin Crane is one of television's most beloved dads, played by the late great John Mahoney. Martin was a retired Seattle police detective who, after being shot in the hip while attempting to stop a robbery, moves in with his oldest son Dr. Frasier Crane after he moves back to his hometown (after living in Boston for many years during the events of Cheers). While the sports-loving ex-cop is the polar opposite of his refined intellectual sons, Martin loves them very dearly and helps them in any way he can, even coining the tagline of Frasier's radio show. And who could forget his adorable dog side-kick, Eddie?

3. RICK GRIMES

We couldn't have a list of top TV dads without including the star of the pop-culture phenomenon, The Walking Dead! After waking from a coma, police officer Rick Grimes finds himself in the midst of the zombie apocalypse, alongside several other survivors including his son, Carl, and his wife, Lori. Rick is described as an "everyman" character who represents morals and values, and throughout the long-running series assumes a leadership role in humanity's fight for survival against the seemingly neverending hordes of ravenous undead. A feat not entirely unlike wrangling small children.

4. FRED SANFORD

Fred Sanford (played by comedy great Redd Foxx) is the sarcastic, cantankerous TV dad from the hit 1970s comedy Sanford and Son, which is widely regarded as paving the way for other mainstream African-American sitcoms. Alongside his son Lamont, Fred runs a salvage business and is constantly getting into shenanigans due to his frequent "get rich quick" schemes. He also pretty much owns the phrase "you big dummy!"

5. WALTER WHITE

Walter White, the protagonist of the hit drama Breaking Bad, is a TV dad whose entire story revolves around the fact that he's a dad. After being diagnosed with a terminal illness, Walter applies his skill and brilliance as a chemist to the illicit drug trade, becoming a kingpin and using the funds to build a financially secure future for his disabled son.

6. MICHAEL BLUTH

Michael Bluth is the long-suffering single TV dad of the hit comedy Arrested Development. After his father goes to prison for "creative accounting" practices, Michael assumes the dual role of CEO and President of the family business. Despite being undermined by his family at every turn (particularly his incompetent older brother, Gob), Michael's level-headedness and sense of duty to his loved ones (especially his son, George Michael) allow him to soldier on, even on the many occasions when he'd want nothing more than to give up.

7. DANNY TANNER

From his lovable brand of dorkiness to his sound end-of-episode advice, Danny Tanner of Full House is "America's dad". After the death of his wife, Danny is left to care for his three daughters, alongside his brother-in-law and best friend. A model single father, Danny consistently holds it together for his family, possessing the perfect balance of "father" and "best friend".

8. FRANK COSTANZA

Fans of the long-running comedy staple Seinfeld know the fiery Frank Costanza! George's quick-tempered father is best-known for his numerous angry outbursts, eccentricities such as wearing his sneakers in the pool and fear of mice, and his invention of the anti-commercial Christmas alternative "Festivus", which was originally a real-life family tradition of the show's writer, Dan O'Keefe.

9. ELLIOT STABLER

A veteran Marine, hardened NYPD detective, and dedicated father of five; Elliot Stabler of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is the definition of "papa bear." His experiences in the SVU, particularly on cases that involve children, have made him a borderline vigilante unafraid to do anything short of killing the perpetrator to secure justice for victims of crime, which has cost him his shield on a couple of occasions. Nevertheless, Elliot stands firmly behind his principles, which are more often than not charged by his own highly-protective parental nature.

10. PHILIP BANKS

The patriarch of the Banks family on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was a father of four in addition to being Will's uncle. Quick-tempered yet compassionate, strict but loving, Phil is a dedicated father and husband as well as a highly educated and successful lawyer and political activist, who was present at the Selma and Watts riots during the civil rights-era.
