Get Ahead on Spring Cleaning with These Car Organization Tips

March 14, 2018 0
GRANDVILLE, Mich.–– We know winter is still technically here and spring is just around the corner. This weather doesn't quite call for a windows-open, full-out, detailed clean but it's the perfect time for some simple organization to help get you started! Some of us can neglect keeping our cars tidy throughout the winter because of the cold weather and desire to be inside, on the couch, and bundled up. Let's be honest, some of us can neglect keeping our cars tidy all year long, because that's just how we are! We know we want to keep things in order, but life simply gets in the way. There are ways, however, to combat the excuses. We're talking organization methods. Check out some of the ideas we've put together below and get ahead on spring cleaning with these car organization tips!

1. Baskets

These are the most simple, yet most helpful holder of items. You can pickup baskets at your local grocery/department store, hardware store, or for really cheap at a Dollar store. There are plenty of sizes and materials to choose from, sometimes there are baskets with dividers in them to organize further. Baskets are especially great for emergency kits so everything is in one place!

2. Pill Bottles

When those pill bottles run empty, don't throw them out - save them! They're the perfect size for coins and smaller items like q-tips, Ibuprofen or Advil pills, mints, etc. All those coins laying around in your cup holder could be put into one simple place with a pill bottle for easy access.

3. Cereal Container Trash Basket

You can easily clear out the trash from all the small compartments in your car to get started, but this cereal container trash basket will help keep it all in one place for easy clean up. You can find these containers at grocery/department stores or anywhere you can find kitchen supplies. They come in different sizes, but finding one with a large mouth makes it easy to use. An alternative solution? Hang a 3M Command hook to the side of the center console and hang a plastic or paper bag for garbage.

4. Shoe Organizers

These are great for organizing a variety of items including kids entertainment, maps, emergency items, etc. These shoe organizers can easily be hung by string to the back of a car seat. A bigger shoe organizer like the one shown above can encourage your kids to put things away when they're done with them, especially since it's easy to do!

5. Pencil Pouches

You can easily find these in the school supply section of your grocery/department store, or in an office supply store. These little pouches are perfect for small items. You can attach them all together with a keyring or carabiner to easily keep them together as shown above. A group like this could easily fit in a center console, depending on the size.

6. Empty Altoids, Gum, and Travel Q-Tip Containers

These small containers, similar to the pill bottle idea, work really well for small items that you need to store in your cup holder, center console, or glove box. The Altoids containers can be used to hold first aid items (see these 5 DIY mini emergency kit ideas), and the gum containers can be used to hold cash, house keys, etc. You can even disguise the gum container for security (see this secret car compartment DIY). Lastly, the plastic Q-Tip containers are also great for small items like headphones, hair tires, bobby pins, etc. that you can group together.

7. File Folders

You may not have a ton of documents in your car right at this moment, but a file folder can help keep everything organized. This is especially helpful when you're traveling and have to bring documents like passports, veterinary papers, etc. along with you. You can also store service records and other related items in an organized way. Bonus: if you're old school and still like to carry a paper map, a file folder is perfect for storage!

10 Crockpot Soups to Make This Winter

January 25, 2018 0
GRANDVILLE, Mich., –– It hasn't been looking like winter outside this week with the unusually warm temps, but it sure still feels like it. The flu has been taking an unfortunately big toll on families and individuals across West Michigan this season. When you start to feel down, be sure to rest up, get more sleep, drink more water, and feed your soul with some comforting food to make you feel better. We've come up with a list of 10 crockpot soups to make this winter, that'll have you getting off your comfy couch for a second helping, even when you're feeling as sick as a dog! Even better, these recipes are done by crockpot, meaning they're perfect for when you're coming home from a busy day at work or school.

Lovely Little Kitchen whipped this one up and thankfully blogged her recipe for us. This recipe involves cooking the chicken in the Crockpot, then preparing the sauce or base separately so it's super fresh when it's ready to serve.

2. Tomato Basil and Parmesan Soup

This one only takes 6.5 hours and is complete with mozzarella stuffed crescent rolls to dip with, all thanks to the Chunky Chef. This does require a blend or food processor for that smooth tomato soup consistency you know and love.

3. Slow Cooker Broccoli Cheese Soup

Thanks to Cooking Classy, this broccoli soup hits that classic comfort note. This is a true "cozy blanket and comfy couch" type soup after a long day. Not to mention this one is easy and cheesy!

4. Slow Cooker Skinny Loaded Potato Soup

The Cookie Rookie brings us this ultimate comfort soup. Everything you love in a loaded baked potato in a easy to make crockpot recipe with a little "bad" taken out. Even though it's labeled as skinny, no flavor is compromised here.

5. Crockpot Beef Stew

Alright, so this one is more a stew than a soup, but it'll warm you to your core. Thick, hearty, beefy and filled with yummy veggies make this an awesome recipe for winter thanks to Iowa Girl Eats.

6. Crockpot Chicken Gnocchi Soup

This back-to-basics, rustic, cozy soup is all thanks to Pinch of Yum. Featuring spinach, bacon, chicken, and gnocchi this soup will feel like anything but basic. It requires 4-5 hours in the crockpot and a slight amount of prep before serving.

7. Creamy Chicken Wild Rice Soup Slow Cooker

Little Spice Jar brings us this wonderful and creamy chicken and wild rice soup recipe. You might already have these ingredients on hand at home. This one features wild rice, carrots, celery, onions, and chicken. Yum!

8. Slow Cooker Chicken Pot Pie Soup

If any dish says down-home comfort, it's a chicken pot pie. This soup takes that dish and turns it into a soup, sure to cure any winter blues. Thanks to the Gunny Sack, this recipe is really easy and done completely in your slow cooker.

9. Crockpot French Onion Soup

Cheesy, steamy, and oniony this one is a winner. The Dashing Dish brings us this crockpot version of the famous soup in a wonderful and easy way. Caramelizing the onions before putting everything into the crockpot is what really makes the flavor standout.

10. Crockpot Chicken Noodle Soup

Of course we wouldn't finish this list without including the all-time favorite, classic chicken noodle by Pip and Debby. This one takes 7-8 hours on slow or 3-4 on high and covers all the bases of comfort.

Hopefully this list of 10 Crockpot soups to make this winter has you feeling warm and fuzzy already. If you or your family members are sick with the flu, we hope you take time to rest and give your body the TLC it needs!
