Where: Tawas Bay, MI
The stretches of beautiful freshwater beaches and the piers are reason enough alone to visit Grand Haven throughout the year. During the fall, Grand Haven has some of the most gorgeous views around. You can walk along the beach, feel a nice breeze off the lake, and enjoy the colors from the shore.
Kalamazoo is home to Western Michigan, countless great places to eat, and the Kalamazoo River! While you might not think of a city as a great place to see the fall colors, they're all around K-zoo. We think you'll enjoy the lovely scenery at the Nature Center, the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail, or throughout the downtown area along the river.

It's recommended to hit some of these peak times towards the middle or end of the period so you get the best chance of full fall color coverage! Glen Arbor is located amongst the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in Northern Michigan. Home to the Glen Lakes and the Sleeping Bear Heritage trail, you can be sure to find views all around you!

When: October 10-14
Tawas is located on the opposite side of the state on Lake Huron. The stretch of US 23 that runs through (from Mackinaw to Standish) is appropriately named the Sunrise Coast. We recommend visting the historic Tawas Point Lighthouse, especially if you're a bird watcher. It's considered one of the best birding spots in the midwest.
Where: Port Austin, MI When: October 12-17
The little town known as Port Austin lies at the tip of the Mitten's thumb. This area is home to the infamous Turnip Rock, ideal for kayaking around in the fall when the weather is nice. We think you'll enjoy the beautiful fall colors on the rocky shores of beautiful Lake Huron whether you're on the water or just taking a hike around the lake.
